if you had the choice of uploading to any free uploading sites( which i discovered are MANY!)
what would you choose?
I choose Rapidshare because when people download my stuff, I get points. I use the points to get free Rapidshare premium accounts to I can download stuff fast.
I've only been without a free RS Premium account for 1 week out of the last 6 months or so.
Megaupload is getting slightly better at rewarding uploaders, but my vote still goes to Rapidshare. Nothing "pays" as much as Rapidshare so far without penalizing downloaders. Megaupload is simpler for downloaders but sucks dicks for uploaders, it's not necessarily a price I am ready to pay considering technically I am providing the time and "service" of uploading something you want.
I always failed to see how the demanding party, AKA downloading user, has to be rewarded equally or nearly as much as the uploading party. Because let's face it, the way the internet is rigged usually uploading takes way much more time than downloading, and that's without considering all the work prior to sending the file to a server.

Simple, the site (eg. Rapidshare) acts as the Middleman Distributor while the Downloaders are the Customers and the Uploaders the Suppliers to the Distributor. Why should any self-respecting business treat it's supplier better than it's customers?
Main reason i don't like RS? When you have a top (not average, top) download speed of around 25 kbps it's much efficient to download one 200 MB or 300 MB file, leave your PC for about 2-3 hours and return to download the next 200-300 mb file than it is to download six or seven 100 MB files and keep coming back every hour or so.

I think you're wrong in assuming the downloaders are the only and priority customers. Without any uploader, there wouldn't be any downloaders you see? Content has to be shared in the first place for rapidshare to host it. Both uploaders and downloaders can be considered clients or customers as you say it, except uploading takes much longer than downloading. Not only that, but I'm sharing the content. You're doing jack shit.
Rapidshare offers up to 200MB parts for non premium users and up to 2000MB parts for premium users. The 100MB parts is more of a convention. It's a good size for a download, if something breaks it's easy to replace 1 100MB part instead of 1 500MB file (or more)

Yes, but you can also look at it as the uploader being the main customer. You, as the uploader, are using their servers and bandwidth to share your file with others, therefore you are the customer and user, and the downloaders are just part of what you payed for, if that makes any sense

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying you guys don't deserve to be rewarded...
Again, think of it in business terms. It would be more profitable to have little or no supply and high demand than a lot of supply and little or no demand, assuming RS pays to keep content on it's server. Not to mention, if their primary profit generation is the sale of Premium Accounts, wouldn't they be doing their uploaders a service by offering them for free if your uploades were downloaded enough? You don't get a free account just by downloading a lot do you?
It doesn't really apply to RS all that much, but there's also advertising revenue to take into account as well.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Downloaders aren't worth shit. Anyone can download. Not everyone uploads...
Without uploaders, there's no downloaders. Rapidshare wouldn't make any money if there wasn't anything to download.

Well, the way I look at it is the uploaders are paying for the space and bandwidth, so that others can download it. I guess maybe I'm a bit backwards if you look at it as if they make more money from people getting premium accounts to download faster though

Yes you are, considering that while Uploaders have the option of getting a Free Premium account eventually, Downloaders have no such option (i think) and are forced to pay if they want a Premium Account, no exception.
A question though (cause i'm lazy) if you bought enough Premium RS accounts and never uploaded a single bit, could you qualify for a Free RS account if you kept on purchasing them?

It's by far the best for uploaders, but as far as downloads are concerned it really does suck dick for free users. As much as I dislike people whinging about files being hosted on RS, I don't think it's fair to say they're doing jack shit when it's thanks to them that the uploader will most likely never have to pay a penny for their Premium account.

Yep, you can. I've done it more than once.

Go ahead and do all the uploading necessary and you will get a free account at some point. It's not THAT easy FYI, you have to upload a lot of stuff or get very popular files. Nearly impossible with 100% legal files you'd imagine. So it's not like it's just a walk in the park.

Yeah. I'm aware it's not quite that simple, I'm just saying there's a definite element of "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" with Rapidshare. It's hard work but there is a fair number of people who only have Premium accounts thanks to everyone downloading their files. Of course, it doesn't help that after messing up the points system RS are well on their way ruining the service for uploaders too, but that's another story.
