Well I just finished reading The Hobbit so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good Fantasy book.

DragonLance Chronicles not really one book though it's actually a trilogy.
Dragons of autumn twilight
Dragons of winter night
Dragons of spring dawning
you may also try any of the tales of shannara books
maybe also Pendragon it's pretty good.
if you are into mythology and havent read them yet I suggest rick riodan's books either the Percy Jackson starting with the lightning theif(Greek mythology) series or the kane chronicles starting with the red pyramid(Egyptian mythology) note while both these are mythology heavy they are set in modern times.
just a few suggestions for you.
There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity ignorant people can be taught

Anything by Raymond E Fiest.
Greats books.
Or for an alternative.
The Dark tower Books by The master, Stephen King
CONAN, by Robert E Howard. Interesting reads. Written a long time ago, but I think it aged well.
The Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock. I found this to be an interesting 6 book series. I'd probably include the hawkmoon saga as well (all part of the weird collection that is the eternal champion)
I've read a couple of the dragonlance books, decent enough, but I always watch out for a series done by different authors as I don't know how different writing styles are going to be.
Hands down the wheel of time series by robert jordan (RIP). It's toooooooo good I promise!
also forgotten realms series...anything by R.A. Salvatore

Hmm...I always find his books for cheap and just take them in for credit at the book store. What's the level of fantasy, general plot etc...?Originally Posted by darklinky
Anyway, I gotta pimp The Dresden Files because it's what I do. So good though, just so good. Set in modern times with detective elements, gritty at times and generally never disappoints (about 2 things through the whole 14 book (so far) series have been wtf but they both just kind of went away quickly).
what does ftfy mean?

Deltora Quest....STOP LAUGHING! As a kid I loved the series so much back then I planned to plastic bag it and keep them in great nick so future generations wont miss out............................................... ..lol
Start with the Dresden Files.
Forgot to mention earlier that the main character is in fact a wizard, so the fantasy element is high.
Hardcover first editions or else. Speaking of which I picked some up today that I was missing from my Terry Brooks collection.
also you could try reading the disc world series by terry pratchett
