This isn't the kind of thing that is open for debate and if you plan to have a serious discussion about it, I suggest you limit your insults to the less endowed party. One of these two people is not a homicidal simpleton who is being punished for taking a dump in the bathtub for the second time in one week, and we both know that he would have been allowed to go to the concert otherwise.

So, instead of being put in a medium-security prison for 20-30 years with a shot at parole or appeal to a higher court, he gets to be locked up in a mental institution, medicated, and essentially kept indefinitely without appeal or hope of parole until his case psychologist is adequately convinced of his mental health (which can easily end up being never). Besides, even if he gives it a shot, he'll never get an insanity plea. He might get a "mitigating factors", but then he just ends up stuck with both prison and a court-mandated psychologist. Forgive me if I'm not seeing an advantage here.
