Default My computer is a mess.

Well it started when I had when I had a BSOD on my computer and it said something about a system file being out of place or soemthing. I tried restarting it and it cannot go to the OS, I learned much later that I needed to repair my files but my cd rom drive doesn't work. I tried installing the hard drive on a another computer but it didn't workout to well so I tried reinstalling on my computer. I attempted it but not my computer cannot see the monitor as well as my hard drive. I cannot see my computer yet I know what to do now, I probably messed up some parts ont he inside or something and I may to take it apart to find out.

I need to rip my files before I send to the repair shop however I don't start work until tomorrow so I planning to hold off on it until then. I need to repair my computer but I need some help on that and posssibly save some money. What I can I do? What should I do?

Edit: My PC is an HP Vectra VL420F.

You could save yourself trouble and buy a new(er) computer.

XP and the computers designed to run it are nearing the end of their life, you can only use an old computer for gaming so long before it goes kaput. You can get a decent and up to date computer for around $700, or you can try a low tech solution to a high tech problem and smash your computer with a sledgehammer.

For once im in agreement with everyone... wow that thing is worse than my 8 year old Dell Laptop

Even the most Cheapest Budget PC would knock yer socks off in comparison to what you got now mate, time to get yourself a new fun box it would be a waste of money gettin a new hdd put in there, the hdd would be worth more than the whole compy

Edit: lol Googling your Computer model the 6th link is you asking for help on About.com

Yeah... I really would say you're probably better just investing in a new computer at this point. If you build yourself, you can make a pretty kick ass computer for right around $500.

    This.

I can only agree that it's not worth the trouble (and money) to repair your PC...

Don' worry, it won't hurt... that much!

It is. 99% of computer problems are fixed with mindless hacking and cussing at the CPU.

But yes, do get yourself a new computer. If you need help with specs, we could help out.

Remove the HD and move to another computer as slave or inside a USB mobile rack (for IDE HD set the master/slave/cable pin).
Boot the OS, and try to back up your data.
Format the corrupted HD (don't use quick format), move it to Vecra (set as master)
Check the cables (look if the IDE cable is connected to motherboard/HD).
Check the power cables (HD and CD Drive)
Boot your computer and look if bios detect your HD.
If won't work try a new IDE cable.

Before repair/buy a new one: check your friends: and search for one with hardware skill.
