In most cases shootings happen becuase some kid(s) have been bullied, pushed around & always been thought of as an outsider, so they organize a shooting becuase they know their faces are gonna be all over national television & & they'll get the attention they want; And dead or alive their okay with that. If the media would take their cameras & pens & shove them up their ass when these things happen I think we'd see alot less shootings period.
You're making the assumption that media attention is a major factor in the majority of school shootings. Do you have any evidence to back this up?

Not just media attention, attention in general. I would say psychology is a good source. All kids want attention, it's pretty obvious.

There is no hard evidence on it. You know why? The kids are dead.

But, if attention is a large factor, it would explain the extremely sudden outburst of school shootings after Columbine. Do you have any other ideas as to why it would suddenly shoot up?

They said he was off his medication. Because he told his girlfriend it made him feel like a zombie.

He had all ready tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrists before.

It's a well-known fact that most shooters of the ilk want to be heard. They want to make an impact. So, then, it's just a general assumption that letting the others know they'll be heard will help them act out. Something like that.

Can't bother looking for material on this.

Not all kids want attention and you'd be surprised how often "pretty obvious" things turned out to be wrong when investigated. So show me some evidence.

There wasn't a major increase in school shootings post-columbine. The first burst of them occurred in 97 (with three incidents in the one year). Columbine didn't occur till 99, a year which had only 2 incidents including that one. The total number per year didn't exceed three until 2003 and then again in 2006 and 2008.

Impossible to find evidence because it was destroyed along with the bastards who took the easy way out instead of owning up to their actions. We'll never know until we disable a shooter before he offs himself or the police do it for him, but I'm pretty sure the cops will shoot to kill to prevent more harm, as would alot of people in the same situation.

Those are the shootings you heard about. What does it take to make national headlines? Multiple homicides? In the area where I grew up had school shootings all the time. Where was our national attention? Where was our sympathy?

Lock downs became regular because someone was running through the school armed or someone just got shot up in the parking lot. I hate to see shit like this happen to innocent kids but every time it happens I don't feel the need for a scapegoat or an explanation on why it happened. I just see an unfortunate event in an unfortunate place, not a national crisis or a recurring and growing problem.

It's not impossible to find evidence either for or against it. They often leave behind writings (not necessarily manifestos or such, diary entries or incidents in their school record are good for insight as to their reasoning), school reports, conversations with others and so on. You can start to put together an idea of their mental state and reasoning processes from that.

It isn't definitive, but it is capable of producing evidence.

On further investigation, I stand corrected. Just don't level the national headlines thing against me when I'm not even from the same hemisphere as you, let alone the same nation.

What a fucking idiot. He tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrists yet he had access to a gun. How stupid can you be!

The whole suicide by slit wrists thing is heavily portrayed in media as the suicide method. He may well have had a vastly inflated idea of its mortality rate.

Or maybe he wanted an "artistic" death. Or maybe he had some other reasons.

It was years before that he had tried it. Maybe he didn't have access to a gun yet.

I know what that kind of medicine does to you, I used to have to take ridalin because I didn't pay attention in school. It took the doctors awhile to figure out that I didn't have ADD, but the school work was really boring. by then I had been off it for a coupla years.

    It's getting quite old.
When will there be change? A good change?
Agreed our goverment has been like this for years though, and will never change unless there is a total change of everyone on capital hill, and the state assemblies. Sad reality when Japan is a safer country to live in then the US, but thats what we get when we allow states to make laws that supersede the federal laws.

States should have jurisdiction over gun laws according to the constitution. If you think a state is too lax on gun laws, don't live in that state. Essentially, if the power is not delegated to the Federal Gov't in the constitution, the 10th amendment applies to every issue thereafter. BTW, the 10th amendment is the most underrated amendment in the entire constitution.
