Shin Megami Tensei II issues

So I have hunted and hunted and been unable to find any information on this issue:

I cannot get past the dialogue in the very beginning of the game. No matter what I do, it just loops over and over again.

I've tried both SNES9X, ZSNES, and have tried taking the base rom before applying the romhacking translation patch, tried manually adding the Aeon translation patch, and tried the already patched download here. All of them do this and there's no way for me to play the game.

Which dialogue? Before the Saving part?

It's the very first dialogue, when you start the game and the dude is giving you the speech about how he saved you and you're an awesome gladiator. It gives you a yes/no option but it just loops instead of going forward in the conversation.

Well, that's weird. The game did progress for me after I choose 'Yes' (It will always loops if you choose 'No') and giving you three options after that as well, which are Save, Training, and Leave.

Are you sure you're not pressing the 'B' button instead during that part?

Tested on Snes9x v1.51, with prepatched rom.

Yeah, definitely pressing the right button. It just loops the dialogue no matter what I do.

Double check your button configuration perhaps? maybe your A/B buttons were switched?

Try using the Snes9x version I mentioned previously as well if you haven't.
