    Both but mostly emulation ,
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

    Both.
I own PS1-2-3, PSP, PSVita, GameCube and Wii. Had some older consoles too, but they are long dead.
Everything else (except for current generation and Xbox (360), of course) gets emulated.

Mostly consoles, but with about a 50/50 mix of original games and backups, and often running games in slightly different ways to how they're supposed to run. I don't think I've ever played a PSP game off UMD, every PS2 title I've played over the last five or six years has been off an internal hard drive, and I usually just use backwards compatibility for consoles like the PS1 and the Gamecube because either I don't have the original console, or it's simply easier to use a console that I already have set up than to haul out the original. Still mostly real consoles, though. I think the only platforms I emulate regularly are pre-PS1 ones, simply because short of buying a flash cart or programming my own carts there's no easy way to play backups on them, and I still don't have a lot of the games from that era that I want to play.

I generally prefer real consoles. I do emulate from time to time, but I prefer the real thing. Emulation is nice for trying games or playing games you didn't get a chance to when they were new. Or for hard to find games or rare games. Arcade games are great for emulation. Since its hard to find real arcades in this day and age, depending on your location. I do like to play an actual arcade cab though when I can.

Like everyone above, for the ones I have I play on real consoles, if I don't have the console I use emulation.

Emulators only, though very rarely these days.

The only console I've ever owned was a NES, though.

Consoles, and mostly old school consoles like PS1, Gameboy, Nintendo 64 and others. But the emulators are also playable and I can enjoy them sometimes.
