    Default Winrar & 7zip simultaneously?

I've been using Winrar for ages, even on some 7zip files and all was well.
Then I wanted to extract some of the 7zip that weren't opening, so I downloaded 7zip without installing it [Edit: it was installed!].
I disassociated 7zip from winrar in the winrar settings menu.
Now most of my files are 7zip archives, and extracts are giving very odd results.

re-associating 7zip with winrar and deleting 7zip did not undo.

    Winrar-7zip compatible? Solution?

Excellent little program for problems such as this.
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

Looks good. Same problem on my XP, but that has almost no on it.
    thanks

So we can't easily have both programs at the same time to open all compressed archives?
    Will 7zip do them all?

    Yes.
It's free, has better overall compatibility, and better compression.

What DL said, just scrap winrar since its junk and stick with 7zip, once you sort out your little association problem of course

Looks like 7zip is doing everything my old-version Winrar needed to do.
Would you believe Loveswamp the Oily One is now uploading jap PS2 games that require latest Winrar to extract!

Yep it's the only archive manager you need, although it is possible you might encounter a rare issue or two if you aren't using the more recent beta version.
You won't need to ever use hjsplit either.

    I just installed 7z 9.38.
Archive Manager is 7zFM / file manager yes? These files still cannot be opened.
They are Loveswamp's latest uploads that he says need latest version of Winrar. (Loveswamp the Oily is Yuichi Aizawa btw., hope I translated his name right.)

His last few jap PS2 offerings: Tengai Makyou II and Legaia Duel Saga.

    "Instruction:
To extract, use latest version of WinRAR."

All I've heard is 7zip's problem with RAR5 is still there in the new beta, and it won't mention rar5 in the problem dialogue box. Simply "file cannot be opened".

Interesting. I haven't encountered any RAR5 archives myself yet.

    Solved.
Kept 7zip installed. Re-installed winrar 5.01, un-checked all file association boxes, right click opened an iso that was still disguised as winrar archive, and checked to associate with 7zip instead. Now all iso are iso again.
winrar 5.01 is also extracting Loveswamp's new uploads that he instructs "use latest version of winrar". I think any 5.xx version winrar will work on those, since mine is a couple years old now.

I need both 7zip and winrar to extract everything (if only because I don't know how to do it all with one), and they are working well together now side by side.
