I noticed that there is a way to use ftp to download the game and I would like to know how to go about downloading it that way.

You only have to hit the Edit Download Settings button, choose your server type (and location) and update it for the changes to take effect.

FTP is more reliable but not everyone can access it due to proxies or firewalls.
