    Default So eBay was hacked

Really common news. Not even really worth posting a thread over, the story is everywhere.

But I'm kinda raging right now over how utterly incompetent they are. It took them several weeks to disclose the incident, and they've done a piss poor job of that. They never even bothered sending me an email about it, I found out about it by watching the 6 o'clock news last night. That's pretty sad. I went to change my password, the password change deal requires them to send me an email as the first step. I've clicked that 'send email' button about 20 times already and have gotten 0 emails. I'm not even getting my daily search notifications... So I check their help thing, and they give me a phone number. I've tried phoning it a dozen times, and it doesn't even connect... The old options for livechat or to send them an email don't even seem to be present on their site, at least as far as I can find.

Their next help suggestion for account issues is to simply create a new account, it only takes a minute! Great idea eBay, I should just forget about my decade plus old account, with 100% perfect feedback, accurate personal information, that has both it's username and password compromised

I know they're just overwhelmed, but christ, put up a working password change method...

Changed my password this morning without issue. Password and username I both only ever used on eBay, brilliant.

Well, I didn't know that. So it was worth for me.
Changed my password right now, no problems.

Well, we're pleased you chose EP for your major news. We know you have a choice, and probably made the wrong one. But things still worked out, so it's ok

You know, I just remembered I have at least a half dozen shill accounts from many (pre-Paypal) years ago. They've never had password updates, I wonder if they're still mine?

Straight forward password change, only a confirmation email afterwards.

Good thing I don't remember my username or Pass for it, but I know that they are different from my usual stuff.
Don't even have paypal linked to a credit card either.

Even if you don't care about the account it's a good idea to cut it off. It's a bad idea to have any real name/address type details available to the internets. Maybe see if you can delete the account or something.

Yeah I found out because someone else told me about it yesterday. Already complained about it in the hangout. Ebay wet the bed in general on this situation pretty bad.

Let's be honest though, if a good hacker wants to get into a site, they'll find a way eventually regardless of how much security you have and how strong it is. All that you can do is make it harder to discourage the script kiddies and casuals.

I put in my name field "Whoever reads this" and in my family name "is <inappropriate word of choice>." Then wait for them to hack me.
