I actually lied here. Just having a look at the thing now, I did put us down as getting 1 goal against the Netherlands tonight.

Now I have to remember why I did something that stupid.

Brave Mexico! I didn't see that coming. Fer must be happy.

Hall of Shame of the WC 2014:

    Spoiler warning:

    - Japanese referee (Brazil-Croatia)
    - Spain
    - Uruguay
    - Maxi Pereira
    - Akinfeev

My younger brother and I had one pound on Mexico finishing their group with five points, but it was kind of an outside bet, and we didn't really expect them to get that much out of the Brazil game. Impressive. :O

Was about to suggest the same addition to the Hall of Shame.

Someone we know is going to like that cameo

Anyways, Brazuca seems to be a bit better than Jabulani for goalies with butter fingers

There was lots of space in the corner of the image, so there was only one sensible course of action.

Would have been an awful mistake for Akinfeev even if it had been an isolated incident, but then at least you could put it down to one freak error. Last night, though, he was failing to hold easy shots all night. Don't know what was wrong, as he's usually a really good goalkeeper, but honestly one of the worst individual performances from a goalkeeper that I've seen for a while.

On the plus side of things, South Korea were pretty good! They play in a similar way to Japan, but where Japan never looked like they believed they could win against Ivory Coast, Korea were bursting with confidence from the first minute, and I felt that they definitely deserved at least a point out of the game. Nice to see Asian football achieving success, even if it's via Japan's greatest rivals.

Another beautiful and crazy match today! Aussies managed to dominate Dutchies for a good part of the match isolating Robbie and Arjen and minimizing their chances to counterattack. They also did a good job man-marking Wesley. But in the end the physical superiority of Australia ceased and Holland could do what they do best.

    =======

Historic and fair elimination. Theere's very little to say when you receive 7 goals in 2 matches while scoring just one goal by a dubious penalty...

6 days ago Xavi said "our style is unnegotiable". May that be their epitaph.

Yeah nothing to complain about really, just a beating. I was hearing you about how tikitaka is dead but I surely never expected Spain to be out before their last group game.

Maybe Xavi wants to be buried with tikitaka.

@Marin: Well your guys are still in it man! Great show today, dismantled Cameroon. Really a shame about opening night since you guys now really need to beat Mexico to advance.

Roos really outplayed the Dutchies for a lot of that game. I was impressed.

It has been dead since the ConfeCup. Not wanting to admit it is not knowing about football.

I can see why some players, like Xavi, with limited physical aptitude refused to bury it since it doesn't require a lot of physical effort to practice it, but once it's clear that it became ineffective, that everyone and their moms can counteract it without major effort, it's time to sign it's death certificate. And I'm glad of it, you all know how much I hate it and how boring I think it is. But I have the feeling that it won't be so easy to get rid of it...

So yeah, if Xavi wants to be buried with it, I'm fine with it!

    - Maxi Pereira
    - Akinfeev

I'll be late to the convo, but I was shocked that Spain got thrown out like that!
Not a good period for them. It does look like a surprising World Cup at least!

Oh Yeah! We're back in the saddle! Great match, everybody were at the top level, maybe just some minor mistakes in our defense, but everything else was perfect. And don't forget that we had extra player after 40th minute. I still don't get it why Song did that, it was very stupid and unnecessarily. Anyway, we are looking forward for the next match against Mexico, that will be a hard one. GO CROATIA!!!

...and Gypsy, it's pronounced Man-ju-kich (Mandžukić)
