Default How to record Gens properly?

I tried recording Gens with Dxtory (since Fraps fails to recognize it), but my video got black borders around it, like this:

I'm suspecting this has to do with poor configurations choices and stuff. What should I do so I can make the video display on the whole screen?

THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

What about the better emulator called Kega Fusion??

It also has built in recording along with the required codec

    works like a dream

The only issue I can see is that it does not record it filtured

Well... the problem with Kega Fusion is that it has no rerecording features, and they really help me with my videos.

Gens have them, so that's why I'm forced to use it instead...

Then just crop the video's yourself you made from Gens

VirtualDubMod should help there, it's free and easy enough to use

Thank you, this helped solving the problem.

I have another question, though. Is there not a way to increase Gens' windowed resolution?

Seems like the max it can get is 640x480. But I'd like something higher than that.

Nope it's just stretching really when you re-size the window, you can maximize it so it fills the entire screen but that is still just stretched

There would need to be 3x or 4x filters (Render) to get it any any higher

P.S. what exact version of Gens are you using as you don't seem to be using the normal version to have game recording/rewind features as they are not basic features of Gens so you must be using a modded version

I ask because there may be more options with the version you are using

Without filters though and with some of the basic ones they image is just doubled in size i.e. the pixels are double the size, with advanced filters such as HQx2 and higher the pixels are first x2 the size then the filters are there to smooth the visuals up a bit after the re-size.

If the version you are using can use plugins there may be a way to add more filters to it (aka Renders)

    EDIT:-

Gens+ Rewind has support for 3x rendering

Image is a sample of HQx3 make sure to look at the real image not the thumbnail that may be shown (just see if the image is clickable)

    http://emulation-evolved.net/?q=node/10 < version 1.1
    http://emulation-evolved.net/?q=node/5 < version 1.0

there seems to be problems with 1.1 for some so 1.0 might be a better version to try

    EDIT:-

From the little playing round it seems that you may need to set the filter up for 3x as it jumps to a messed up 2x on re-opening of the emu, so just take the render off then re-set that option if you close the emu down to re-open it

I even had that working in full screen but I edited the ini file while Gens was not running and set the the res up to the same as my desktop res, otherwise it was just crashing out in full screen

The Gens.ini file is a little different for this version mind and changing from full screen to windowed tends to mess up the display setup so you need re-set the graphics render again there also

Like I said though give me what you are using then I can take a closer look
