nope. it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo lasted longer then their original fanbase
Listen Folks, Nintendo has been around for more than a century and they have more sources of income than games, which Sega doesn't really have. Nintendo is also about 50 years older than Sega and thus has a larger base to work off of. Additionally, Sega had screwed up multiple times prior to its fall. The losses they are thought to receive from the Wii-U is a drop in the bucket in Nintendo's rainy day fund. They are sitting on $35 Bil and prospective losses are at $350 mil. It will probably be a niche console, but it's gonna be ok. Remember that the original Xbox flopped at a loss of $1bil, pissing Microsoft off to no end, but they managed to make quite an impact in the industry and gain a foothold and irrevocably alter the dynamics of the industry. It's still a great system regardless, but it was a gamble that ran at a loss, but succeeded at an ulterior motive to profit.
Additionally, many other flop systems, like the 3DO, managed to alter slight policies to grab a last second profit. So those censorship policies (which were profitable early on) Nintendo has or whatnot are more likely to change due to this possible flop. It is very possible that Nintendo can turn this around and we might even get a better Nintendo out of it.
To be honest, they would admit they've lost if do such a thing. Nintendo won't admit it, and to be honest why would they go third party? If anything they might curb on the home consoles and concentrate on portables. Third party won't be a good venture and they won't have control over their games.
Besides they kinda went third party with the Panasonic CDi
I think it'd more likely go handheld only.
I don't really understand that whole "handheld exclusively"-opinion. Seriously, I played that New Mega Super Luigi Awesome Town game for the Wii U, and I seriously want to get one just to play that one game. HARSH TIME LIMIT + COLLECTABLES? IN A MARIO GAME? It's just too brilliant.
So, what was the question again? Uh, yeah, I think Sonic Heroes should get a remake.

He's got black hair, and he's german.

Watch me play Super C, guys!!
I'm not sure why people compare the Wii-U to the Dreamcast?
The Dreamcast sold 10.6m systems in 3 years according to wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamcast
The Wii-U will be 2 years old as of November of 2014.
5.86 million (as of December 31, 2013)
Most of those were sold during the launch window.
Its probably going to sell WORSE than the Dreamcast.
I think Nintendo would be better off if they stopped making console systems, and started focusing on hand held systems. I think Nintendo attempted to make the Wii-U seen as a console/hand held hybrid, but they didn't manage to pull that off very well. I think they could possibly pull off such a system in the future, but a hybrid system would need to be able to do both of those completely, or it will be worse than doing one or the other individually.
