    I think they're OK.
The newer ones I've been able to correct myself mid-sketch so it comes out a bit better. That and I've been experimenting lately.

Other than my usual wackiness, no.
Won't be playing "dress-up" this year. I've got a formal ball to prepare for on Nov. 1st.

You draw on paper and then scan them for coloring?

Yes, and yes. Preferred style, considering I haven't been shopping for WACOM tablets.

I am, mostly as a chaperone to another junior marine.

You ought to have a look at least. I used to do a little drawing myself, and these boards will substantially reduce your time spent scanning, filtering and adjusting pencil into a colorable outline. Does your paper have a 100% reversible undo button? Didn't think so.

Having a tablet also infinitely expands your drawing utensil library, diminishes material cost and allows for you to protect your documents from physical elements.

I have to get on that, but I just don't know, they all look good. I just need a beginner's tablet, to grasp some digital art basics I haven't been able to pick up with paper alone.

The GF has one and we never use it. Let me ask if she cares to part with it. Never really used.

When I was 12 years old I dropped my Nokia 3310 into a cup of tea, it didn't survive.
