So, brother's sitting next to me, playing Gone Home. 5 minutes into the thing he accidentally finds the secret door that leads to the end of the game (which is accessible from the beginning but you'd have to play through the entire game to find the clue that tells you where it is).

Good thing I was there to stop him.

There's a secret door that leads to a room where you find the attic key. You go to the attic, ending cutscene begins.

The cursor turns to a question mark when you hover it over the secret entrance. He just happened to be investigating a nearby bookcase and looked in that direction by accident.

Because it's right out in the open and unlocked. It's just disguised as a normal wall panel so you don't think to try opening it.
