Ninja Gaiden (NES) blew me away back in the day. I think the intro and cutscenes made the game more popular than the actually gameplay.

The opening cut scene for Final Fantasy Xiii was extremely good. Also, the Heart of the Swarm opening cinematic gave me chills. The part at the end when the swarm overruns everything is so boss.

Everything you've fought for has been in vain.
The only thing left to do is take as many enemies as you can down with you. Even though no matter how many you kill, it doesn't put the slightest dent in their numbers.
And to top off all that futility, history will remember you as nothing but a joke because of some bad translation.

    Star Ocean: The Last Hope

The first time I played this game and saw the intro, I was surprised that this portrays what could happen to the world (North Korea anyone?). Not sure about space travel though, but every time I see the intro, it always leaves me amazed. (I hope the video showed up properly!)
    How's it feel being beaten?

I don't know why no-one posted Fallout 3's opening yet. It's like the epitome of bleakness, and it makes incredible use of the licensed soundtrack with that opening, and the Enclave soldier turning his head as the music swells, just... Breathtaking! (not to mention that the first glimpse of the Capital Wasteland upon leaving 101 is incredible)

Since somebody already covered Wild Arms and Chrono-Cross ... the following classics deserve honorable mention ...

That suspense filled fanfare and sniper-lens reflection between the chopper explosion and the title screen gets me every time!

And who could forget shedding a tear of brilliance over this ...

... and headbanging along right after that synthesized pitch-bend!
    K-K-KOMBAT BREAKER!!
