Default Can I give fullsets to a child?

    Hello

I have fullsets with roms of old game consoles. They are 2D and N64 is the only exception.
I want to give the collections to a child, but I do not know if the child may find bad things in the package.

    MAME
    NES
    SMS/GG
    SNES
    SMD/32X/Genesis
    PC Engine
    N64
    GB/GBC
    NGP/NGPC
    GBA
Old consoles (Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Mattel Intellivision, ColecoVision, Watara Supervision)
Old computers (Commodore 64, Amiga, MSX, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Apple 2)

    I am not too restrictive.

    Games that are OK:
    -Mortal Kombat
    -Grand Theft Auto
-Games with guns, bombs, tanks, fire and explosions
-Naked people, but those parts under underpants and panties cannot be shown
-Swords and knives without realistic mutilation

    Games that I cannot give:
    -Survival horror
-Very scary games (Alone in the Dark, Fear)
    -Explicit sex
    -Very violent games (Postal, Manhunt)
-Realist violence or sadness that lead the player to feel the pain or the sorrow of the victim
    -Excessive blood that causes disgust
-Games with psychological pressure or tension

I did not find those cruel games in the romsets of old consoles, because I do not know the bad ones.

I do not have fullsets of CD/DVD consoles and I know all games I have.

    Thanks

    The short version: No

Fullsets are literally complete sets of every known version of every game for the system, so it doesn't exclude things of particular genres. It also includes unlicensed games and romhacks, which are often far more explicit than you'll ever see in a retail game. Like, literally porn.

You pretty much have four options:
    a) manually check every game and delete the inappropriate ones (impossible)
    b) Google around for a list of inappropriate games to delete (time consuming, inaccurate)
    c) download individually rather than a set (less variety, but best control)
or d) Google around for a "family friendly"/"kid friendly" set (have to trust someone else's judgement)

If I remove hacks and unlicensed games, will the problem continue?

Old consoles, such as NES, have limited graphics and sound. And GB does not have colors. I do not know if they can have inappropriate games.

The easiest way is selecting the games I like manually.

There is a licensed NES game that is literally 8-bit porn. The best way is to manually check, though removing the japanese roms would likely get rid of the licensed porn. Hacks and unlicensed are a big difference as there are some great, family friendly hacks.

I'd say these full sets are pretty family friendly.

I know theres a nude 'punch out' Nes rom hack and probably a ton of others. Mame has several nude puzzle games. However, I have yet to find an inappropriate title within the 1500+ TG16 Rom set

I would just pull out the roms you want to give them, maybe zip those up as a single file, and if they want more as they get older, they can figure out how to find these sets for themselves.

One thing you need to be careful with is some arcade puzzle games have nude pics in between the stages, like Puzznic, and Don Doko Don, whereas the NES version of Puzznic is clean. Maybe everyone here can come up with a good list of games, if that doesn't seem like too much of a pain...

The OP is a little confusing to me, but oh well.

PC Engine will have dating sims in them. Thats as bad as those consoles really get from your criteria that I can think of.

pulling just the hacks and unlicensed games from a set won't be enough either unfortunately as i've seen myself. for example, theres (i think) a beta or something of 1 of the genesis streets of rage games that never got released to the usa due to a certain character being deemed too offensive (and yes it is a rather offensive looking one). said character got removed before the usa release but the version with it is in the full romset.

so some early versions of games could fall under the so-called "bad" category too.

just checked my full set for genesis and its this version of streets of rage 3 that i was thinking of: Streets of Rage 3 - Really Gay Edition (Hack)

and the character in question? Ash, you can find info on him with google as well as why he was pulled (that is 1 case of censorship i approve of)

For Genesis/SMS/GG it's not only possible but easy, just get clean sets without hacks, it's all about less than 200 games and you can obviously skip Sonic games, shmups etc. Won't take more than hour or two.
NGP(C)/NGCD/NeoGeo are absolutely safe if you don't mind Mortal Kombat - Samurai Shodown fatalities are way less cruel and gory, also can be disabled, and closest thing to something erotic there is Mai's bouncing boobs which is also nothing to worry about.

Sets that you'll probably won't give to a child - PC-9x and japanese computers in general. Tons of porn there.

You know- does this child NEED fullsets? It would be easy enough to google the 100 best games for each console; but I STILL don't see how they will have time to play them all... Pick and choose the best and most essential games for the kiddo

I would narrow it down to 50 *at most*.
I was a gamer child and I couldn't go past beating 30 games before "the next best thing" came out.
    But that's just me.

The MAME romset is chock full of nudie games including but not limited to quite a bit of 80's style bush images. Pretty disturbing...

If you think that's disturbing, realize those women are in their 50's now.
