Mario Kart Double Dash with Dolphin... I'm so confused.

So basically I've been screwing around with these having no clue what I'm doing attempting to follow walkthroughs and step-by-step instructions on how to work the emulator so I can play double dash.
Now I can finally open the game, and it plays the part where mario says "nintendo" and lakitu shows up for a second and then flies away, and then it freezes or only plays at about 1 frame every 3 seconds.
Someone please help me / . \

What is your system specifications?
Have you ever played other games with the emulator? Are you sure about configuration of the emulator? Have you checked the compatibility list?
