Default Great site for hard-to-find Sega CD BIN/CUEs

For all the Sega CD fans, I'm working towards having a complete set consisting entirely of clean BIN/CUE rips, preferably from the Darkwater group. While most of the downloads here are in the BIN/CUE format, it's not always clear how they were ripped. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the games on here, but AFAIK the Darkwater ISOs are the best around, and other BIN/CUEs could have possibly been converted from old downsampled and/or stripped ISO/MP3 rips. I don't usually worry about who ripped a game, but it's clear the group is dedicated to providing the best dumps possible.

The downside is that it can be hard to find this group's releases.

However, I stumbled across RomUniverse today, and their Sega CD collection seems to be comprised entirely with Darkwater rips. However, be forewarned, the site has a very strict download limit. While you can buy an upgraded subscription, standard users are given 300 points to start, and get 50 more each day. These points equate to 1MB each, so I cleaned out my initial 300 on one game, so bank on downloading an ISO a week unless you fork over some cash.

That being said, there is an extensive BIN/CUE set here, and a user at IsoZone has uploaded most of the Darkwater BIN/CUEs in sets, so I'll just be using RomUniverse to get the handful of games I'm missing.

Just thought I would share in case anyone else is as OCD as me about his stuff, lol.

Specialised torrent sites are probobly your best bet

I'm waiting on getting some new external HDD's though before updating/collecting new sets

I ran out of space a while back, got 2x2TB drives full of roms and ISO's for various systems, even had to stop on my NDS set

One of the 2TB drives is actually hooked to my Wii and has 1000 english Wii games on it (I had no intention of having coppies from every region though like most of my rom sets)

I done the same with Saturn aswell, it has a couple of translated games and every english game on there including exclusives from E region and U region, I may add Jap only games aswell but I do not need a U and E copy of every game, that just takes up too much space, most the games there are E being thats the region my Saturn is, so unless one of the E games is copy protected or something most the games will be PAL-E region

Xbox I have mostly U releases and patched my xbox to run in NTSC-U mode with just a couple of PAL-E exclusives, actually had to stop on that set aswell due to lack of space so missing a ton... waiting for a new HDD

Older systems I have full sets including all languages and duped games i.e. English NTSC and PAL versions

In the end I'm thinking I will need a seperate drives for Console systems Nintendo GameCube and under/Sega All if it all fits, there are atleast 3 sega consoles that use discs (I'm not doing GD-Roms as I play on real hardware for Dreamcast)/Sony PSP & PSX/Sony PS2/2xdrives for Nintendo Wii (Maybe more)

Redump is the best for Disc images.

No-intro is the best for rom sets.

just thought id help chip in some information
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.

Neither have downloadable games but sets tagged No-intro and Redump are the ones to go for, though recently it took me a lil while to find an up to date Redump set

Thanks for the info, sorry I'm taking so long to respond. As it turns out RomUniverse just changed their points system, now users get 300 points to use a week and they're reset each week. In other words, I won't be able to download any ISO larger than 300MB... Plus, the guy uploading the Darkwater sets to The Iso Zone stopped a the letter "S", so I'm kinda back at square one.

At this point I don't care too much if my Sega CD games are Darkwater rips. I'll definitely use them when possible, but it's hard enough just finding Sega CD ISOs in BIN/CUE format - most of the ones I'm finding are in ISO/MP3 or ISO/WAV format... I'm also looking for some obscure 3DO games, and while all 3DO rips I've seen are in BIN/CUE format, a lot of the hard-to-find Japanese titles are only available on Usenet or by becoming an Unlimited user on The Old Computer (only complete set I've found).

Zorlon, I'm not sure what sites you were referring to when you mentioned specialized torrent sites, but I did manage to google up some torrents containing Sega CD and 3DO games i needed, although they are pretty old and aren't being seeded...

As for Redump, i've heard of it, but wasn't really sure how to put it to good use. In any case, I stopped being as picky now - the ISOs I have left to find are rare enough as it is!

    Like what ???

ISO + WAV can be converted to bin cue easy enough and wav is not a form of lossy audio infact it's raw, the exact same format used in Bin Cue CD images that have cdda tracks

ReDump has the cue sheets if needed you will need to rename a few files ISO to BIN and WAV to BIN and use the same file names as used in the cue that is justa text document so you can open *.cue files with notepad

ReDump also has crc checks so you can if you wanted see if you have a good dump or not, the sound tracks may be off with MP3's when you convert though to RAW/WAV as MP3 is a lossy compressed audio type, anotherwords you can't convert it back perfect because it lost some quality when converted though it may not sound any different

Hrrmm.. That's good to know! I've found most of the 3DO roms I'm looking for, and heard from MasJ that Emuparadise will get a big 3DO update soon. However, there are a lot of Sega CD games I can only find in ISO/WAV, so this is good info! I had tried converting some before using IsoBuster, but wasn't having much luck.

I do have one question, though, Zorlon: Using the method you described above, it seems i would have several BIN files for each game, is there a way to combine them into a single file? I guess they would work in the front-end I'm using either way, but it would be nice if every game was formatted in a single BIN/CUE to match my other ISO sets.

Oh, and Wasn't sure what you meant by "Like what?", but if you're asking to games I'm looking for, here's a short list:

    3DO:
Dragon Knight 3/Knights of Xentar, Golf Ba Multimedia Shinchaku, Monoshiri Koro Yuugaku, Onee-San to Issho: Janken Paradise, Onee-san to Issho: Kisa Kae Paradise, and just about every Game Demo CD and 3DO Magazine Demo CD

    Sega C
After Armageddon Gaiden, Aisle Lord, Alshark, Annett Futatabi, Bakuden: The Unbalanced Zone, Bug Blasters: The Exterminators, Cyborg 009, Daihoushinden, Death Bringer: The Knight of Darkness, Devastator, Earnest Evans, F-1 Circus CD, Fhey Area, Game no Kanzume 1 & 2, Genghis Khan 2: The Clan of the Gray Wolf, Heavy Nova, Ishii Hisaichi no Daisekai, Mega Schwarzschild, Mighty Mighty Missile, Night Striker, Ninja Warriors, Nobunaga's Ambition 3, Psychic Detective Volumes 3 & 4, Quiz Scramble Special, Romance of the 3 Kingdoms III, Sengoku Denshou, Shadowrun, SimEarth, Star Strike, Surgical Strike 32X, Tenka Fubu, Tokyo Mahjong Gakuen, Warau Salesman, Wild Woody. (I can find many of these in ISO/WAV, so I may be able to convert some.)

you can either mount the cue with D-Tools lite and re-rip with IMGburn (it's totally free) in bin+cue format or use ISObuster (free version) that can open up disc images directly then extract the CD in bin cue format

P.S. you can burn cue++bin+wav directly or via the cue and many bin files

Surgical Strike 32X was never released it was only ever made into a standard CD game the 32X expantion for it, never got released though was due for release in 1995

I may take another look at your missing games when I have a better idea of what you actually have missing as converting is a doddle to do once you get into the flow of it

Sega/Mega CD Unreleased list [Yes/No = dumped or not]

    Download Links:
Links are hidden from guests. Please register to be able to view these links. Most the games you want should be available though 3DO aswell, lets see what MasJ has in mind though for the 3DO set atleast

Personly not got the bandwidth to be uploading / downloading tons of sets actually not got the HDD space either.

I will be after a set of Sega CD games myself (again) once i can get a new external HDD, though will only be going for english games I have far too many Jap games that never see the light of day, unless they got an english translation, like Shining Force III on the saturn

I lost a few HDD's so lost alot of my sets I used to have, roms I got back but CD games I am very much lacking in (I hvae all the english games for the Saturn though including a couple of unreleased games that got dumped) need to got my Dreamcast set back, though have most if not all english games burned anyway, never did want GD-Rom dumps as I play on real hardware not via emulation

Thanks, Zorlon, I'll try using IMGBurn, I love that program.. I know I might sound picky wanting everything in BIN/CUE when I can burn just about any format to a disc, but I use these games in several front-ends, and it's much easier/cleaner if all the games are in a single unified format.

Thanks for the unreleased lists as well, that saved me a lot of time!

As for Surgical Strike 32X, I've heard that it did get a very limited release in Brazil via TecToy. This has become a bit of an urban legend, however. I doubt any dumps have been made, but some reputable folks have sworn that it does actually exist...

BTW, Speaking of urban legends, my 3DO collection is nearly complete, but there are a handful of games, mostly Korean releases, that are EXTREMELY rare. For a long time it was thought the The Eye of Typhoon was the rarest 3DO game (a lot of collectors swore it was a hoax), it was only released in Korea and goes for $1500-$5000 on eBay... AFAIK it has never been dumped. But it seems other games like Ekiden and Kyusei Oilman are even harder to find... Pretty crazy stuff, I've never seen a console with so much mystery concerning it's rarities... Either way, it's fun to collect ISOs for, but I imagine hardcopy collectors would have to be pretty hardcore (and rich!).

I just discovered the world of Usenet, so I may have posted those lists prematurely. The number of games I'm searching for is getting smaller and smaller now!

You never know they are constantly dumping new stuff all the time

New unreleased games are being dummped all the time

I got a few for the Saturn and Dreamcast that only got dumped in the last few years, a few megadrive and 32X aswell, just go back to searching every now and then, some of those are totally unplayable though
