Professor Layton and the Last Specter

Every time I submit the puzzle #1, it doesn't even tell me if I'm right or wrong, just restarts the puzzle with no change. I'm stuck! And there's only one ROM file that I can download for Last Specter here, and it's bugged. Is there any suggestions? Or links? (Please no mediafire/filefactory/etc.)

Edit: After I submit it once, the answer I submitted is already there when I see the puzzle again.

Edit #2: Is there a link to a patch I should know about? Or the patched game? I can't seem to find it in Emuparadise, but I've heard about the retrogamefan's patch, but I can't seem to find it.
