    Default FF7 Emulation Help

So, when running FF7 (obtained from this site) in ePSXe, the sound alternates between extraordinarily fast and waaaaaaay too slow, which impacts how smoothly the game runs. It seems to also run in super speed, battle meters were filled instantly (though for some reason I couldn't see that portion of the screen) and the in-game clock was ticking up much too fast.

Any help you could give me would be absolutely amazing.

    Specs:

Windows Vista Home Basic (32 bit)
    Model: Vostro 1510 (dell, laptop)
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU, 1.80 Ghz
    2038 MB Ram
    Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset
Sound is pumped through onboard Realtex speakers

    USING
    ePSXe 1.70
    BIOS: scph1001 - USA
    Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.76
    Eternal SPU plugin 1.41

    Thanks again.

Try Using the newest OpenGL - Pete's OpenGL 2.9
Your specs are perfect, a little too perfect.
I would suggest turning off automatic frame skips.
    Maybe this'll help.

    .
I originally had that one, but I was getting error messages related to pixels and such (can't remember the exact error), and was told to use the openGL 1.76 on some other forums.

Where's the automatic frame skip option at?

You'll actually need to hit config, video, configure (main, if you're not just using the built-in one), click the "Copy settings to clipboard" button in the lower right and paste on reply for us to be able to help with the graphics. However, that said, it sounds like you need to go in, increase offscreen drawing to 3 (for the ATB), set it to use FPS limit and manually set the FPS limit to 60 (should fix your speed issue). Also place a tick by the "Special game fixes", click the little box with the dots in it beside the option, and enable all that state, "For FF7," or, "for Square games".

As for sound, make sure the top three boxes are checked. Let us know if you still have issues and what they are after you try the above.

options should be located in graphic tab, then your graphics renderer. OpenGL 1.76 (example) There should be options, click on that.
I use the reccomended graphics renderer so IDK if this works or not.

I did what you suggested for the video and audio settings. The cut-scene works fantastically now, but the sound still speeds up as soon as the actual gameplay starts. Soon after, it the video froze and I couldn't move (at least I couldn't see if I was moving).

Strange. I'm not really seeing anything there that should be causing the issue, and a quick look at the compatibility list says the game should work perfectly. You could try turning on mask bit, but perhaps it's some weird issue with the plugin itself? Have you tried a different one, like Pete's D3D (same settings)?

As for sound, try hitting config, sound, configure, and enable "Update before accessing register" or whatever it's called (says "Needed for FF8, FF9, and some Square games", I believe.) and see if that helps at all.

Why don't you update to the latest SPU plugin? Try 1.70 and see if that helps. If not try using the non open gl drivers and see what that does.

Alright, the sound plugin must have been causing the problem. I changed it to the ePSXe Core SPU. Not sure if that's the best choice for sound. It does still skip a bit, sometimes repeats the bleeps I get while choosing whether to chop them in half or not.

I changed the PGU to Pete's D3D, as suggested. It's working great.

Words can not experience the nostalgiagasm I'm having. REPUTATION FOR EVERYONE!

The main reason you probably had a ton of problems with Open gl is Intel has horrible support for it with their chip sets. I can't run open gl for some reason. I heard that if you have Vista and up it does not run properly on certain Intel chipsets. Even though they claim it is supported. But if your on XP I heard that Open gl runs ok.
