Never tried, the Konami code is too awesome not to use.

Bought Contra III on VC a year back or something and it kicks my ass. I hate the Terminator stage.

WE HAVE TO PLAY THIS TOGETHER! I didn't have an adapter/region free SNES or anything, so I had to buy Super Probotector. Terminator stage? The hoover level? Oh, or the third one (with the robots)? Contra III is... well, it's like Myst's explanation of the first game, only much more extreme. You should always have the crusher and laser on bosses and switch between them repeatedly. On easy, the bosses will be dead before they start attacking, pretty much.

However My dad and I have beaten it a few times, as well as Bionic Commando without continuing.
Hardest part about Contra on Co Op is the damn waterfall level because you keep killing each other.
I had never played any of these game alone either, until a week ago. But the added challenge is actually pretty fun, imo.

Edit: Damn, except for Contra III. But only 'cause my mate challenged me to beat it on hard, no continues using only three lives. I failed.

Because-you-all care so much update: On my third try today (the two first were "restarts" 'cause I died at the level 2 boss both times, somehow) I beat it, no continues and I had more lives left than I had when I started. Dunno how many though, since it doesn't show after you get four.

Didn't use the spread gun for levels 7 and 8 either. Because I fucked up big time (I actually beat the entire level 8 with the default weapon). :>

Yes, yes we should! It will be awesome. Well I think it's Super Probotector I got too. But I bought it on Wii Virtual Console so I have no physical copy... Yeah third stage I meant, with the Terminator rip-off boss. I actually have beaten Contra III many years ago thanks to save states. Easily one of the best entries in the series but it's so hard.

I actually prefer Probotector over Contra. Playing as bad-ass robots feels good man.

It will be super-awesome! Yeah, didn't even notice the VC part until I had already replied. It's funny, because I remember when I - playing on co-up - had to use save states to beat the game on easy. Half a day later I had beaten it on hard. Attack patterns!

Nah, the robots look like rabbits or something.

I beat Contra and Super C, and didn't use any Save States, or the Konami Code. It was tough as hell, but it felt nice after I beat the game.

I just beat Super C on my own for the very first time. Second attempt, no continues, ended with three lives. But, as previously mentioned (I think? Maybe not), I had played a fair amount of Super C, co-op, only a month or two ago.

I'm all out of awesome retro contra games now. Gotta get my hands on that Hard Corps prequel, methinks.

Yes, it's easy. So is Super. Hard Corps is not.

'Isometric' does not mean overhead, it's for fixed views that are usually some kind of 3/4. Zaxxon 3D is isometric.

Beaten Contra 1, 2, 3, 4 and Neo 1 on a J2ME phone. all of them are original ports by Konami China (except 4, which was the USA port). They can be regarded as "harder than Console", except Contra 4 (who was easier and had borked hitboxes everywhere), because of their controller in a mobile phone. Did I mention it I have beaten them without the advantages nor Konami Code?

After today, hell yeah I can! It was on an emulator though... but no cheats/savestates/fastfoward! Just with a NTSC filter, a controller and my reflexes! Used all continues only because I lost my spreadgun on level 4...

    Yes, With 3 lives .
One Time I don't loss a single life at all. I'm also don't believing me. But that's true.
I beat contra when i was maybe 7 years old.
I did that in a console don't know the name of that console. That was very cheap 5$.

I can beat it after I play for a few hours. It's not one of my favourite games, though, so I don't go back to it too often.

There was a time I could, but highly doubtful I could now.
