Pokemon Emerald. The graphic in this game is better/sharper than Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire.
Plus, we can rebattle the Gym Leaders up to 4 times (something that is not exist in Pokemon Black and White).
There are many great things about this version. So, hope you consider it.

FireRed is the only good thing about Gen 3, so do that. And make sure you do a NUZLOCKE RUN. Anything less is for little girls and your grandmother.

Hmm...Emerald or Firered. Emerald is better to start, though, because Firered is really long and a bit tougher, I think.

Here's sum advice avoide ruby, sapphire and emerald allthough there amazing games the levels of the AI are horrendously terrible therefore experience values are in the gutters. The only way i found that got me through to level 100 land quickest was secret bases.

Also avoid the fire type always a bad choice unless you know what your doing.
Layin down enjoying the fun unleashing the power of the sun and capturing them all until I'm done.
