i have 16tb of space, only counting 1tb+ drives. the only ones ive ever had crap out are hitachis (their deskstar series used to be called Deathstar for good reason)
tho my 6 year old wd 1tb just developed 1 bad sector.
but yeah, not much mac-relevant info, but check this out. you can google for some mac hard drive tools

Hello, i am the casting Couch. you have probably seen me in locations that you can ether not tell anyone, or places you wish you never visited if you know what i mean
Just do a full format if you have time, I can imagine a full 2TB format taking like 2 days straight though.
Did you have anything important on it you don't want people recovering? Otherwise if it was just music/films etc I'd just bloody leave it. Chances are it'll be dead before anyone has a chance to recover any data from it anyway. (Shitachi!)
just movies games but some personal info like resumes and shit too

CCleaner has a drive wipe function, 7 passes should prevent anything from being recoverable.
I would just go through and remove anything that has personal information someone might be able to use to steal your identity. Japanese is usually good quality, but I am not a fan of Hitachi.
i deleted anyting major and used the macs secure delete feature to eliminate it, then i returned it, so thread no longer needed
