OnLive UK Members: Last day to purchase your first game for only £1
    By: Ralph Moran

When OnLive launched in the United Kingdom on 22 September, they announced a promotional offer that surprised many. OnLive UK members could purchase their first game on the service for only £1.00. They had the option of choosing from over 60 different titles, including games such as DiRT 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Homefront, F.E.A.R. 3, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, Red Faction: Armageddon, and many more.

That offer expires today at 11:59PM BST. All residence in the UK that wish to purchase their first game for only £1.00 must do so by tonight. Otherwise, they will have to pay full price for their first game on the service.

With the end of this sale, many OnLive gamers expect to see more AAA titles begin to be released. Tuesday tends to be “release day” for OnLive, so it’s quite possible some good new titles will be arriving on the service.

As many OnLive users in the UK have discovered today, they are still able to purchase their 1st game for only £1. OnLive had set a deadline for this introductory offer for the 9th October 2011 – but this offer has since been extended and the date has been removed from their website. Also when browsing through the marketplace on the OnLive service, one will notice that the £1 offer is still available, if it hasn’t been used yet.

We asked OnLive community manager Matt Jensen about this, and he stated, “Interest in the promotion has remained strong. We are very happy with the continuing player demand, so we have extended the promotion for a while longer.”

No new deadline for this deal has been set. This is obviously great news for new UK OnLive users, as there still is time to take advantage of this great deal. However we currently do not know when this offer will end; OnLive currently has no end date set, so we would still encourage users to take up the offer as soon as possible.

On Friday we were the first publication to report that Bastion, Magicka, LIMBO and several other Indie games would be coming to OnLive this fall. Yesterday we learned of yet another.

Two Tribes Games, a Netherlands based game developer, which has created games for Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance, Nokia N-Gage, PocketPC and mobile phones, along with the traditional consoles plans on bringing a game to OnLive as well.

Toki Tori, a game that was originally released for PC, Mac, and mobile devices back in 2001 looks to be coming to OnLive’s cloud gaming service in the near future.

Toki Tori is a puzzle game, and also the first published video game from Two Tribes.

Here is a brief synopsis of the game courtesy of the developer:

Based on the critically acclaimed Game Boy Color game, this update improves the original on every front.

Sporting a new look, updated content and a completely overhauled Wii Remote™ control scheme, the game offers players of all ages a classic gaming experience while making the most out of the Wii console.

The gameplay in Toki Tori is a blend of two genres. While it looks like a platform game, it’s a puzzle game by heart. Players will have to look and plan ahead carefully while using a variety of items, such as the Telewarp, Freeze-o-Matic and InstantRock™ to name but a few.

Ever since OnLive Launched in the UK on 22 September, many gamers were wondering when the first UK specific sale would occur. Today, OnLive announce a 3 day, weekend long sale for 2K Games’ titles. Some games are discounted up to over 85% off their normal price.

Here is a list of all the games that are currently on sale to OnLive UK members only. PlayPack subscribers who pay $9.99/month for unlimited access to over 100 different games can also take an additional 30% off the sale price. The Non-PlayPack and PlayPack sale prices are listed below:

    Borderlands – £2.50 (Non-Playpack) or £1.50 (PlayPack Subscribers)
Borderlands Game of the Year Edition – £5.00 (Non-Playpack) or £3.50 (PlayPack Subscribers)
Duke Nukem Forever – £7.50 (Non-Playpack) or £5.25 (PlayPack Subscribers)

    NBA 2K10 – £2.50 (Non-Playpack) or £1.75 (PlayPack Subscribers)

While OnLive has said in the past that they will hold sales in both the UK and US, this is the first UK specific sale other than the “First game for £1.00″ sale that they launched with. Future sales are expected to be both region specific and service-wide in the future.

OnLive – End of $5.00 Fridays

$5.00 Friday End - OnLiveOnLive has decided to put an end to their weekly $5.00 Friday sales. With the introduction of the OnLive service in the United Kingdom, it appears as though it OnLive would rather offer other discounts that will allow for sales in multiple currencies.

The $5.00 Friday discounts were fun while they lasted. Ever since April, OnLive has been offering a game each week, for only $5.00. Unfortunately, OnLive UK users use a different currency than the US users do. $5.00 Friday sales are impossible to offer in the UK because of this. While OnLive has said that there will be future region specific sales, it’s obvious that they’d prefer to be able to announce sales that are service wide.

With the end of $5.00 Fridays OnLive is holding a special sale that will run from today (Monday) through Friday, October 21st. They will sell a new game for $5.00 each day of the week.

Today’s sale is for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction. It’s a game that is normally priced at $19.99, but can be purchased for only $5.00 by non-PlayPack subscribers, or only $3.50 by PlayPack subscribers. It includes extra content, but requires a Ubisoft account to play. Splinter Cell Conviction is a game that can be played with a keyboard/mouse combination or the OnLive GamePad.

    By: Ed Krassenstein

OnLive continues their special on THQ published titles for members of the service in the United Kingdom today. Yesterday we saw Homefront for over 50% off, and today we see Metro 2033 for up to 82% off its normal price.

Metro 2033 is normally priced at £19.99, but for today, the game can be purchased in the UK for only £5.00 by non-PlayPack members and only £3.50 by PlayPack subscribers.

Here is a brief synopsis of Metro 2033 courtesy of OnLive:

In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new dark age.

The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.

You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.

    - Witness the everyday horrors of a broken society living in constant fear.

    - Brave the darkness of the tunnels, where mutants hunt their prey and ghostly spirits lurk.

    - Explore the desolate city-surface, trusting your gas mask and rifle to protect you from a poisoned world and the creatures that roam there.

    - Steel your nerve and prepare to face the terrors that await.

The game can be played with either a keyboard and mouse combination, or the OnLive gamepad. It has a Metascore of 81, and an OnLive user rating of 4/5.
