Default Add new codes or edit for CodeBreaker PS2 via PC

This is in the Hardware mod section as it is for real hardware (my method is used on a softmodded console but can be done on all PS2's via some cheat CD's with cables or USB stick save storage abilities)

Files can also be passed to and from via FTP

I will let you deside on the method of getting the data from your PS2 to your PC, I will guide you using uLaunch though

    Tools used
    cb2util v1.3
    Omniconvert v1.0.0 R
    Ps2 Save Builder 0.8x

On grabbing the codebreaker cheats file.

I just used uLaunch with a USB stick

    Start uLaunch
    Press O to browse
Highlight mc0:/ then press X and look for a folder called PCB
Highlight PCB/ and press X to open it
Highlight cheats press R1 and press X while copy is highlighted
Press triangle twice to go back to the Main path menu
Highlight mass:/ and press X to open it
Press R1 then highlight paste and press X

(you can also use save software built into various cheat discs to get it onto your PC then use ps2save builder to extract the cheats file and re-inject it after [this is a beter method for game saves (some game saves will get corrupt using ulaunch) but for this it's not going to get corrupt ])

Note:- If there is no cheats file in the PCB folder you may need to run Codebreaker once and add a code or game manually (this can be an empty entry of 0's for a code or a one letter name for a game) then press start to update the database, you can delete it right away and press start again to save it)

On extracting cheats.txt from the cheats file.

(I will upload a few batch files to make it so you do not need to do this by hand)
    I used command prompt & cb2util version 1.3

Open up command prompt and type in CD and the path to cb2util.exe (you should also have a copy of cheats in this folder)
    e.g. CD C:\Users\X\Downloads\cb2util
the above will change the working folder to the cb2util folder

    Now type:-
    cb2util cheats cheats>> cheats.txt

This will create a cheats.txt file in the same folder as cb2util

    On finding codes

Here are a few sites for codes of various types (We will be using raw codes I explain how next)

cheats.codetwink.com/ CodeBreaker/Xploder codes for various versions and various regions
www.Codejunkies.com Mostly Action Replay/GameShark & Action Replay Max codes for various regions
www.Gamefaqs.com on occation has codes in the guides section for various regions but alot PAL codes pop up here
www.Gameshark.com no longer there, go to CodeJukies for GameShark codes
    xs.xploder.net PAL Xploder codes
Google can also be handy here

    On Converting codes.

ARMAX Master codes can't seem to be converted so use the master codes from Action Replay(none max)/GameShark/Codebreaker/Xploder

Make sure your codes are for the correct region (most PAL codes will be for Action Replay Max/Action Replay v1/v2 & Xploder)

What to convert to... just convert to normal RAW format, this can be used with the Codebreaker (all PS2 versions )

    Best software to use=omniconvert

If you wish you can decrypt the original cheats (handy if you want to edit existing cheat values (the last 8 digits of the code, the first 8 is the code address location in memory))

    On adding code to cheats.txt

Just open that beast of a file with either Notepad, Wordpad, Winword or whatever other text editor software you have and paste your code into it

Note the format used for the codes looks like this:-

    "Game Name"
    Cheat Name
    Code for above Cheat Name

    "Game Name"
Cheat Collection Name (e.g. misc codes)
    Cheat Name (e.g. cash)
    Code for above Cheat Name
Cheat Collection Name (e.g. in battle codes)
    Cheat Name (e.g. unlimited HP)
    Code for above Cheat Name

    On re-creating cheats file

go back to the command prompt (if you closed it redo the part to get the command prompt to work in the folder that cb2util is stored)
    type:-
    cb2util cheats -c cheats.txt cheats

the above re-creates the cheats file in the same folder as cb2util

On replacing cheats file on PS2 with updated cheats file

Again I just used uLaunch with a USB stick

Copy the cheats file to your USB stick
Insert the USB stick back into your PS2
    Start uLaunch
    Press O to browse
Highlight mc0:/ then press X and look for a folder called PCB
Highlight PCB/ and press X to open it
Highlight cheats press R1 and press X while copy is highlighted
Press triangle twice to go back to the Main path menu
Highlight mass:/ and press X to open it
Press R1 then highlight paste and press X

(you can also use save software built into various cheat discs, just use ps2save builder to edit the original save and inject the cheats file you edited/created them use the cheat CD's method to restore a save back onto your memory card [this is a beter method for game saves (some game saves will get corrupt using ulaunch) but for this it's not going to get corrupt ])
