I would say Megaman Zero 1 on the GBA. For some reason I was so happy to beat that last boss without, using any walkthroughs or cheats. It really brought me back to my childhood when beating games was a life long passion.

This game. Because fuck bullshit collision and hit detection. Check the EPLetsPlay channel for the full thing, because I've been far too lazy to repost it in the LP forum. Or check the channel this video was uploaded on for the same thing without my terrible voiceovers.

Um, I dunno. Contra III and Rush'n'Attack (which really shouldn't be that hard) are all I can think of right now. Oh, and Maniac Mansion the first time(s), withouth walkthroughs.

I can also say how great it was to complete Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PSX) 100% in 2002. I spent about a week trying to take down Shin Gouki, trying different strategies. When I finally did, it was a huge sense of accomplishment.

NSMB Wii. I swear, it's the first game I beat without any cheats, like... ever.

Finishing Defense Grid with all the achievements; game was definitely unforgiving but rewarding when you beat a stage perfectly.

Id have to say... The old Ultima games when I was younger. Picking them up now, I have absolutely no idea how I did it. I can't figure them out /now/ yet I did it back when I was like 8 years old. Either I'm losing mental capacity (a possibility) or these games require a certain lack of logical progression to succeed at. (After shooting down tie fighters, in a space fighter, launched from a space station, I arrived at on a space shuttle, that I bought from some dude who sells horse driven carts... I'm very apt to lean towards this answer.)

The game that i was most proud to beat was final fantasy 6, because i was 7 when i beat it and it was the first game i ever beat, i would have to say i was more proud when i beat both emerald and ruby weapon, especially, ruby, tried like 50 times on that thing.

Ninja Gaiden for NES. I had a whole room cheering for me on that one, also Batman for NES was an accomplishment, but that came years later on Nesticle.
First time I took down Mike Tyson was a big one for me. Most recently the only thing that really comes to mind is Demon's Souls. That game was pretty rough. I love how it just kinda leaves you to figure everything out on your own. There's zero hand holding in that game.
