Soul Silver freezing on DeSmuMe 0.9.7

The problem
While playing the game will randomly freeze. The music keeps on playing, but no buttons work until i reset the game. usually the graphics glitch right before it happens. Either there is suddenly a black wall like the world drops off, or the sprites show up as glitched blocks or funny colors. Sometimes i can save at this point and reset, but not always. I tried running it on no$Gba, but it is more of a pain to run on that anyway. I also tried running it on DeSmuMe 0.9.5 but that didn't work either. any ideas or help?
The Rom
the rom is 4840- Pokemon- SoulSilver Version (v10) (E) although i have tried three other roms all to the same effect.
The Emulator
I am running it on the DeSmuMe 0.9.7. (64bit version)The settings are:
3D settings: Renderer: SoftRasterizer
SoftRasterizer Options that are checked:
Unrealistically High-Precision Color Interpolation (have tried turning off)
Enable Fog
Enable Textures

none of the other settings have been altered other than controls.

( not really a gaming card, but it gets the job done for most games )
