Got a link? I'd take those figures with a pinch of salt unless they can provide a breakdown with the exact cost of each individual component, but keep in mind Nintendo have pretty much always sold their consoles at a significant markup. This isn't really anything new. In comparison, Sony and Microsoft always start by selling their hardware at a loss and hope to make the money back through software sales.

You say that they are going out of their way, hm? Sony playstation 3 cost about 600$ when it was first released. Same with PSX and PS2. I don`t know about you, but I consider that to be a rip off.

Nintendo issued many warnings before even releasing it that no one under 6 should use the 3d, and over 20 should restrict themselves to 1 hour or somthing like that. And anyway, if you`ve ever seen a 3D movie that`s longer than 2 hours, your usually dizzy/nauseas by the end. It`s a problem that will always be there, get over it.

3DS component cost = $100
Okay, so that covers your bottom line cost of materials. Then you have to factor in the cost of assembly, toss shrink mark up due to the occasional faulty piece. Then you have to factor in the "testing" phase to make sure that each handheld works properly (which I'm assuming that they are doing, but who knows...?). Factor in development costs, which they had to recoup somehow... then factor in mark up so they can make money off each item that they sell to stores. Then, factor in the cost that the store is going to sell them at so that the stores themselves can make a little bit of money as well, otherwise there is no point for them to really care any of these products if they aren't making at least a little bit of money on them in some fashion.

Yeah, selling it for $250 is actually a pretty good deal. And I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff in that list that I'm missing. Also, mark up doesn't work the way that most people seem to think that it should. A 30% mark up on $100 isn't $130, it's $142.
