Convert what platform games to .iso files? And why do you need to do this?

    Spoiler warning:

I should hope you are not talking about Playstation disc images but as above we need more detail to be able to give good advice as it happens though I know tons of good free/advert free software for such a task

    Mod projects - XBOX
Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2 - online quests in offline mode packs [COMPLETE]
    [Quest Packs Collection]
GTA San Andreas - Hot Coffee [COMPLETE]
[Mod ready] & [Full ISO ready]
GTA San Andreas - Real Car Names extra content mod [WIP] [Back burner, just won't have the time ]
Please can all ESR users post your results here to help with the project and others wanting to use ESR

I have a tonne of ps 1 and 2 games I want to convert to iso so I can just store them on my pc and pack them away. Is this wrong to do this? They are my own and I have owned them for probably 25 years. I have only just found out about this emulation thing so I really don't know... would like to convert them and put them back in my garage so they stay in pristine condition.

For PS2 DVDs and CDs, just use ImgBurn:
    http://www.imgburn.com/

You can use that for PS1 CDs too, but it'll just output a single file bin+cue. Which in some people opinion isn't desirable as you can't verify your discs with audio tracks against Redump. PS1 discs can just have random read errors on a flawless disc. So if you use ImgBurn you will need to dump each game twice and verify their hashes against each other. Or you can just dump your games with Redumps method. There are a lot more steps, but you only need to dump each disc once (if it dumped fine). They have a guide up here:
    http://redump.org/guide/cddumping/
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here

Just use Imgburn for everything, but that is what we call dumping rather than converting, so you are dumping an image of a CD or DVD, converting disc image types though is something totally different

it's free and is one of the best pieces of kits for burning as well as ripping, it's better than most paid for products also

    As far as formats go

CD images in *.bin+*.cue format is the best for emulation (Not just PSX but every CD system that is emulated), always load via the cue file

Unless you realy want to verify your dumps then I would just avoid the redump method, especially after all that you will need to convert it all back to a basic bin+cue format anyway for it to work via emulation, on a side note though redump is very good for protected games via the sub data track as they have files that let you play those via emulation, but there are not that many copy protected games anyway, mostly PAL region games, sucks for us PAL users, there are some NTSC games that have protection but not that many, actually not many in total are copy protected.

DVD images *.iso is perfect for everything including PS2 emulation

Once ripped do not convert with other software as that can corrupt the disc images especially PSX disc images that use special headers that not all converting software reads, if you require a PSX disc image converting though ask again.

Yeah, I skip all that myself. Just dump twice and you'll know your dump is fine
