Default Just goes to show you how advanced we are.

just got this off of useless facts on my igoogle.

It was recently reported that the technology contained in a single Game Boy unit in 2000 exceeded all the computer power that was used to put the first man on the Moon.

just goes to show you eh?
I can't believe I got the admins to give me a Sesame Street username.

sweet, and think, the technology in a modern cell phone is hundreds of times more complicated.

I think I'll ask my phone to take me to the moon

It'd be amusing if it didn't happen.
The Germans developed rocket tech with their ballistic missile program in WW2 (HVP A4/V2)........the first man-made object capable of leaving earth's atmosphere.
The Russians accomplished everything else; first satellite (Sputnik 1), first animal in orbit (Laika).

Both the American and Soviet space programs were built on what the Germans had already developed. They even used German scientists.

I suppose the space shuttles are an accomplishment of sorts.

It's surprising how much can get done with computers being used correctly/efficiently. But even though it may have worked, the market has outgrown them, making them seem archaic. This is why the Space Shuttle program is being scrapped. NASA has literally been buying old Commodores off eBay for replacement parts...
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here

    That's unlikely, here read:

Also, they're shutting things down AFAIK. I'd think stockpiling parts would be the first thing to stop.

NASA computer gear, particularly the stuff used on the actual shuttles/rockets, is often deliberately outdated. If you have a slower system with more margin for error, it's much easier to harden it against the physical issues of operating in outer space - heat dissipation, external radiation, power usage and such.

Wasn't there some issue with the PS3 being able to control or be integrated into rockets or missiles or something like that.

There were issues where we weren't selling PS3's to certain countries because it can be used as a supercomputer.

I seem to recall (but maybe I'm wrong) reading something about the original Xbox console being used to make cluster servers, but I dunno if they weren't being sold to particular countries because of that.
