Default playing burned games on a ps2 with freemcboot

ive read through all the ps2 faqs but there are still things i want to know.
if i want to play a burned game with freemcboot do i have to do something else besides just burning it to a dvd, like patching it?
are there brands of dvds that are better than others for ps2 games?
do all burned games work with freemcboot or are there any exceptions?
and last but not least imgburn would be a good program to get me started right?
its been a long time since i messed with a burning software and i never burned any kind of dvd. (i use external hdds for backups if you wonder lol)
    thx for any/all answers.

hey i just now finished setting up free mcboot on my ps2 slim. and i used the agent under fire disc swap method. i just put a backup in that worked. it was a TDK branded disc and it had no problems. and yes, some earlier ps2 games like Devil may cry are on a cd format instead of a dvd rom format so im not sure how one would get it to work. and yes, you'd have to patch them using an ESR patch. the ESR i a progam you use to boot your backups. but thats about all i know seeing as i just started. good luck!

all right, and yes i know some of the older ps2 games were on cd, if i wanted to play one of those i guess i would have to burn them on a cd.

Esr patch then burn with imgburn. Try to avoid using cheap brands like memorex as they'll wear your laser faster. I use verbatim and tdk. Esr only loads games from dvd you can convert cd to dcs but not all games work...

It's just a generic patcher program, download here:

As long as you have FMCB and ESR on your memory card then yep.

And as far as compatibility goes, I have about 60 PS2 games that all play perfectly through ESR, I'm yet to try one that doesn't work, so compatibility shouldn't be an issue for you.
