Not much more space and power. The power difference wouldn't be much over a year...we aren't talking about the difference between using a huge crt and lcd.
How much is electricity there anyway? A desktop running 24/7 uses a substantial amount of power but it's not like running a reverse cycle airconditioner.
Laptops don't use much power at all...I've had one running 24/7 for the last year and the cost is nothing compared to back when I was running a desktop 24/7 (that only had a psu around 400 watts).

A laptop would be able to run more ram.
I have an ultra here (not a netbook) that's only 11.6", dual core but has 8GB ram. Has hdmi and vga. Just missing an optical drive.

I'm not quite sure about the price but to run say a 400w device 24/7 would definitely add up.

I don't want to make a very powerful seedbox, if I did, it wouldn't be off a pi anyway, it would be just for small torrents that require constant seeding that next to nobody normally wants on private trackers.

Well like I said I'm using a small laptop 24/7 and it doesn't use much power. I have wood heating for winter (but I sometimes use electric for odd days when it's just a little cold), no gas at all so electricity for cooking, and a reverse cycle airconditioner that's like 3.5kW iirc (maybe it's 4 I really don't remember). It gets pretty hot here in summer (especially now you'll see quite a few days that are 40c or pretty close to that), but winters aren't as cold as some parts of Europe or NA (snow is extremely rare where I live).

I don't spend heaps on electricity...but then I don't share a house with anybody else, use energy saver bulbs everywhere, turn shit off completely if I'm not using it (not standby).
Biggest bill I would see would be in summer, like $400au total at the most for 3 months. That's around 260 Euro or 285 USD.

The price you pay for less bullshit basically. Personally I don't like to torrent.

It's pretty much all I do now but using public trackers. Just a couple of old rare things I've tried to get that turn out to be on private trackers, so it's kinda pointless.

My GPU gave up the magic smoke today. Now I'm stuck with this integrated POS until I can get a jerb again.

Luckily, it will run most if not all of my games, and from what I hear, the one that fried (a GeForce 8400GS) was pretty obsolete anyway.

What intergrated GPU does your system have? Even a shitty Intel HD Graphics 4000 series will likely curbstomp an old 8400GS for most things. Modern intergrated graphics (anything with Iris in the name) will blow your dead card out of the water. So yeah, you may have just upgraded your graphics!

Yeehah, I did notice a performance upgrade a bit. Probably easier on my CPU now I think about it.
