John Connor sent back Reese to protect his mother from a T-800 so that John could be born. That's the first one. Then the second movie, Skynet sends back a T-1000 to kill John as teenager. When John finds this out, he sends back a T-800 to protect him then. Then in the third movie. Skynet yet again sends back a T-X to kill John as a 20 year old. But instead of John sending back another T-800. He orders Kathryne Brewster(His wife) to it. Maybe not an order but that's what happened. And that's that.

The Chronicles are set between T-2 and T-3, she died somewhere between but since the fine ass T-whatever came back and told her she was gonna die it's gonna change and in fact should change the T-3 story line if possible, but it can't because they wanted another film with Arnold before her became too old. So that's what I made out of it.
