As a young'un I spent a crazy amount of time trying to beat the snes version of The Lost Levels in the Mario All-Stars compilation. Probably about 20-25 hours all up.

I really sucked at platform games as a kid.

10-15 hours on SMB3. NES version.

Took that long since I went from 1-1 to the end without using the flute.

Not that easier save filed version of the SNES.

Pilotwings (SNES) took me quite a while to beat back when I was little.

Final Fantasy VIII also took me quite a while, actually, I remember making it to the fourth disc and quitting.

It depends on the genre of the game, if it is an RPG game, it would take a long time to beat. I took a lot amount of time, however, to beat Final Fantasy XII. 76 Hours. It is the highest number I have beaten a game with in my entire life.

I bought Jet Set Willy for the Spectrum in 1984...I still haven't managed to beat it yet...

I know there were bugs in it which prevented you from finishing it, but even with the pokes that were released to correct that, it's still too hard to beat without cheating.

I only play it on an emulator these days, I either gave away or sold my Spectrum years ago...I still have the JSW cassette though.

And to stay on topic, honestly, I don't know, but like Jack I'll go totally retro to say that there are many spectrum games I couldn't even finish being the Abbey of Crime, a true masterpiece, one of them.

You get them before you get to the end.
