First off, you'll need to get less paranoid parents an emulator; here has a couple which work fine, and we all love and trust EP, so viruses and whatnot aren't likely to kill anything .

Just download the Binary, and then you'll need to extract that file using a program like WinZip, WinRar or 7zip. This is the most popular Archiving tool, so download the trial (don't worry, it doesn't run out ).

Once extracted you'll have the emulator in the form of various files (don't delete any, as the text files are to do with the Emulator's settings). You run it by using the executable file (Gens.exe for example).

Once that's done, get a the Rom's you want from here.
This'll come as a ZIP file, but you wont have to extract like you did the Emulator, so just open GENS or whatever emulator you're using, and press File => Load Rom, or something to that effect.

And you're done, play your games after configuring your input (keyboard or joypad) and enjoy.

    Hope that's simple enough

And if your still paranoid, I will say this site is fine and trustworthy, and there are some others as well.

This emulator will play virtually every Sega game, except Saturn, DreamCast or Arcade:

SA-X already gave the link to EP's Genesis roms, so that's why I didn't:

Instead I gave him links to some of the other best rom sites for someone who's brand new to emulation.
And of course, EmuParadise is among those sites (that's why I said other).

Kega is a godsend. You really can't go wrong with it. It was nice to finally have the ability to play the Sega CD games I've been collecting for some strange reason over the years.
