What's the exact error code, please?

Do you have a ps2 bios in its directory?

no its not an error code as such as whenever i start it it comes up saying "pcsx2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconveneience."

and when i look at the output it says:

XML Patch Loader: Could not load file "patches\default.xml" . Error ="Error Document empty.".

and yes i do have bios

    Try redownloading/reinstalling the emulator.

Try downloading the Installer (.exe) version:

Never used it myself, so I can't really help. But, you need a pretty powerful machine to run it decently. Dual core is a must, too. Don't expect it to run games at 60 FPS otherwise.
