    The best so far for me;

    1. Municipal Waste - The Art Of Partying
    2. Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
    3. Maximum The Hormone - Buiikikaesu
    4. Ensiferum - Victory Songs
    5. King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul... Please

Still a lot I haven't heard, such as the new Amorphis, Vintersorg, Sonata Arctica, Allen/Lande, Symphony X, Rush++... so I guess that list can change significantly.

    01. Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
For the disaster that was Octavarium, DT made up for it with SC and much more. Though the album is plagued by a bit of wankry (this is still DT afterall,) it's heavily toned down from their previous stuff. DT redeemed themselves for the atrocity that was Octavarium with this one.

    02. Megadeth - United Abomination
One of the biggest surprises of 2007. Megadeth actually thrashing like it's the 80's again. The riffs in the faster songs give a nod to Rust In Peace and surpasses it even in a couple of riffs. Though the album is marred by poor vocals and rock-ish catchiness akin to Countdown To Extinction and Youthanasia, it's still tolerable.

    03. Machine Men - Circus Of Fools
Another surprise. This album is the most aggressive album ever put out by Machine Men that it even borders thrash territories at times. The break riff and gang vocals in the opening track are pure thrash. Good album despite the obvious attempt at commercial success.

    04. Candlemass - King Of the Grey Islands
    Robert Lowe. Enough said.

    05. Moonsorrow - Havitetty
The most epic Moonsorrow to date. Nothing Moonsorrow has ever done comes close to this in terms of epicness.

2007 albums I'm yet to hear:
    01. King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul... Please
    02. 3 Inches Of Blood - Fire Up The Blades

Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb is kicking my ass right now.

Next month I'm picking up the new Nile and Behemoth records when they're out so add those to my list.

Oh the new Immolation record... it was cool, I just haven't listened to it very much yet.

I haven't heard too many new albums this year, but the ones that really caught my attention are:

    Darkestrah - Epos

A truly well done album of epic black metal. Atmospheric as all hell, with nary a blastbeat in sight yet it doesn't lack for strength. Oddly catchy for a BM album as well.

    Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb

As crazy as Terrifyer, but it hangs together better as an album.

Orange Goblin - Healing Through Fire

Another solid release from the masters of grooving, rocking doom metal.

Alcest - Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde

A brilliant mix of melodic black metal and shoegaze. Very similar in feel to the EP Amesoeurs released last year, and none the worse for it.

    Morgana Lefay - Abberations

Catchy and thrashy power metal with plenty of aggression and grit. A rare commodity amongst the smooth and shiny sound that dominates power metal these days.

There's no death metal in my list so far, mostly because I haven't heard much new DM besides the new Behemoth album. Which dissappointed me quite a bit.

Bollocks, I forgot to mention that one. The Birth and Death of the Day is so epic that it may as well be the soundtrack to the end of the world.
