    Default Silent Hill problem

I've downloaded Silent Hill from this site, and though the game runs ok, there is no sound, and all of the characters and monsters have white boxes around them. Any ideas on how to fix these issues? Thanks for reading this.

    Bios:
    SCPH1001
    SCPH7502

Config > Video > Configure > Copy settings to clipboard > paste settings to your next reply.

For the sound problem, Config > Sound > Make sure all 3 of these are checked: Sound, CDDA Sound , and XA Sound.

that's correct and to avoid any further troubles activate in the plug in configuration the box of game fixes and on the list that opens just next to it turn on the "black screen glitches" or so... i've done it and every iso i run works great!

Thanks for all the advice everybody! I slowed down the FPS on the video plugin I was using and switched to the sound plugin that was suggested and now it's working perfectly! Thanks again!

Anyway, to get rid of all the nasty FPS troubles use the -noauto solution! Just create a short cut and add at the end of it: -noauto!
Ex: C: \ePSXe\ePSXe.exe (the original one)
    "Shortcut" C: \Doc...\Desktop\ePSXe.exe -noauto

You may not need it anymore for silent hill, but it might be useful! later....

The "Fixes Black Areas With Some Cards" setting is for the D3D, OpenGL, OpenGL 2 plugins.

The Soft plugin doesn't have that setting.

Config > Video > Configure > click the little square button next to "Activate special game fixes" > checkmark "Use old texture filtering".

The Soft plugin does not have the "Fixes Black Areas With Some Cards" option.

The Soft plugin only has the black screen fix for Lunar. (The one that says Ignore black brightness color)

Have you checked the first 3 boxes in your configure sound menu? That usually gets the voices to come on.

ePSXe hasn't been updated in years and it's code is a bit unstable so it's no wonder it doesn't work in Vista. pSX The Emulator is being coded with very simple code and has already been proven to work in Vista although there is a bug in Silent Hill that causes a blocky effect during the loading parts. Other then that the game runs near perfect in pSX.

I hate to contradict anyone, but my ePSXe with plugins Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.75 for video with FPS limit set at 60 and Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50 with first three boxes checked allows every game I've tried to work almost perfectly so far. My computer has Vista btw, and I've tried Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis, RE3, and Vagrant Story.
