Default My PC almost shitted on itself. :(

After testing some characters out in Mugen, my PC out of no where, shut itself down. This never happened before. I don't know if it's because I had Mugen in full screen mode. Which would be really wierd. I never usually have it in that mode, I have it in windowed mode, but this time I wanted to use it in full screen mode. Anyway, the PC shut itself down. I thought that was odd, so I turned it back on. It made some wierd beeping sounds, and it shut down again. Never happened before. I then opened up the case and noticed the video card and power supply were hella hot. I turned the PC back on, and got some long message about how it shut itself down due to overheating, press F4 to resume, etc. I have the side of the case off, and a small fan pretty much hitting the entire PC with cool air.

Is it odd that this happened? Something that never happened to me happened when I did something that I normally don't do (full screen Mugen). Or is it just a coincidence? Could I actually be having some issue with a hardware that has potential to be overheating? I don't plan on having the case open and a fan directly blowing air into the PC for a long time, so maybe there are ways of saving energy somehow. Meh. I don't know what to do right. :\

Emachines aren't that bad. I mean, it's not like I bought it for any major gaming or anything. Just basic things. I just want an answer as to why it decided to heat up when it did, while it didn't before.

Sudden failure of the fan or heatsink compound (if there's any).

Try doing what you did again.

They seem to be working just fine.

    HELL NO.

I'm sure that's actually the logical way to check, but, I don't wanna run the risk of this happening again.

There was a little bit of dust, which the external fan (and my air blower thing) got rid of.

check to make sure heatsinks are all attached and secured properly....

maybe there was a power surge or something?

    maybe you're video cards dying?

its possible its been overheating and slowly damaging it over a period of time

how many fans do you have inside your case? this could cause it to overheat if theres not enough air flow

also make sure its not dusty or anything inside... try to clean it out as best you can

Hm. Maybe. But I doubt it.

Don't say that! I don't feel like getting a damn nVidia GeForce 5500FX. Which is what, the best card you can get for PCI?

I don't think so. I always make sure my PC is well cooled. Which is why I was so shocked when I felt the heat that came from it. It's cooling down right now, although the power supply and video card are still unusually warm.

Some little fan at the end of the PC, the CPU fan, I think the video card has a small fan at it's bottom also. That's about it.

What do you mean? They're all hooked up normally, and right now, all working normally.

I meant hook the fans up by themselves so that you wont damage anything anyfurther if there is an overheating problem.

    Just power to the fans.
