    Default Running PSP isos

I've heard that you can only run PSP isos on version 1.5 PSPs. Is this true?
And what version is needed to run PSX isos on PSP?
    Thanks

Of course you can, as long as its not the official one. I also have 3.03b.

So is Dark Alex something like an OS? If so, can I buy any PSP, put this on it and start playing backups and PSX ISOs?
Sorry if they're obvious questions, but I have no experience with PSP emulation.

Check this thread, if I recall correctly it's mentioned there what PSPs can be downgraded in order to run backups and homebrew:

Dark Alex is a hacker that has made his own version of Sony's official firmware (kinda like an OS yeah), so that it can run any PSX games, boot PSP ISOs and so on . To make it short, let me put in a quote:

All firmwares up to 2.80 have the ability to downgrade (and then upgrade to dark alex), either through upgrading and downgrading, or straight downgrading.

On 28th January 2007, fanjita released a 3.03 downgrader available to all who own an unpatched version of gta liberty city stories. This allows anybody who owns a psp to dowgrade to 1.5 and access homebrew.

I still use Devhook, but many people use Dark_alex's custom firmware.

    Hehe.
It's worth the little effort it takes, though. If not for the perfect emulation of lots of PSX games, running PSP ISOs are much easier than with Devhook. Impossible to choose the wrong setting .
