    Default Firefox problems

Okay this is strange....sometimes my computer slows down for some reason. I go to my task manager and to my surprise my firefox browser is taking up 60-70 percent of my CPU power and i'm like wtf? can anyone explain what's happening and how to prevent it?

Austinsanity was telling me the same problem. I hadn't experienced it until I started uploading files through YSI. It got quite annoying and I've recently switched to Opera. IDK, maybe it's some sort of memory leak. It's certainly hard to get anything done when that happens though.

Ha, same here. For some reason not related to uploading or some such activity, I get a freakish brake on operations at the dumbest times. Most perplexing. It's why I'm using IE again.

Firefox is well known for it's poor memory management; it's what happens especially when you have such silly ideas as open source extentions. I use Opera, personally, and even with 100+ tabs open, it never uses hearly as much memory or CPU time as Firefox.
    Plus now it's free <3

Opera is free now is pretty much the reason i decided to install it. There were two things i disliked about it way back when I tried it the first time: ads (unless you pay) and a very very cluttered and confusing interface, both of which is gone now. Oh but you can re-enable all the clutter if one was so inclined. Three cheers for Opera working better than FF

I actually paid for it back in the day, though that was only around version seven. Even then it was enough to claw me away from Internet Explorer. And now I include it in all my slipstream Windows installs that I do for family and such. I installed Opera on my Mum's PC and haven't had to deal with a major spyware problem ever since. It's amazing the difference it makes.
One day Firefox will be as fast at rendering as Opera, and have memory management to match. But I still won't switch because of the twits who treat it like it's some kind've religion :D
    Opera ftw ^_^

well said, and EP has no shortage of born-again Firefox users who can't wait to tell you all about life the moment you mention IE or Opera having an advantage over Firefox.

As Nagisa pointed out, yes the memory management is a bit poor in firefox but I think there's a bug somewhere. I get those memory leaks every now and then on a fairly decent machine and dont get those in the older version installed on my other PC. :\
Might be an update for an extension though.

To note: I used my old FF config from my other PC.
