    Question d/l speeds annoying.

i can only seem to get a maximum of 24.7 kbps d/l speed. i have googled lots of sites about how to get faster downloads and that but id rather hear what you guys have to say. does anyone have any little hints on how to get it to d/l faster? i remember one night up late i looked at my computer and it was d/ling at 64 kbps, but in the morning it went back to normal. i have a telstra speed touch 56k modem and have an active broadband connection, very fast computer, and lots of free time. (oh yeah and my isp is telstra bigpond).

Any help would be great thx.

i got a 128kbps connection and the fastest DL speed i've EVER gotten is 30 kb/s. it seems to be a cap, since it rises steadily and stops there.

    any clue?

He might have the same stuff, but definatly diff connection speeds.

The 100MBps is just the connection between your PC and the router.

But if you have a 128Kbps account, you should only be getting around 16KBps download speed.

they say about their ADSL service
Connection speeds are shown in downstream/upstream format. For example, 256/64 kbps represents the max. speed achievable in the Telstra access network of up to 256 kbps downstream/64 kbps upstream. The actual speeds for a customer are slower and vary due to many factors including the plan selected, the capacity and popularity of websites and computer configuration.
i really hope that the Australian dollar is not worth much.... because the price for what you get is really mad high... like 70$ for "unlimited" cable... that they don't garantee any minimum speed.... and after 10gb of download they max you at 64kbps ... that is SO CHEAP... and they have a higher bandwith plan... for 100$ for 20 gb monthly...

i took that info from their website... that i found from http://www.dslreports.com/ (a good old website that i checked a long time ago)

i may have been wrong about my connection speed. how do i check it?

first, go here and check your speed:

    http://www.dslreports.com/stest

use whatever test you want, I heard the speakeasy test is the most reliable.

    Post the results here.

Also, remember that the number your ISP gives you and the number you will get here are in kbps (or mbps if your connection is fast enough)

However, this is DIFFERENT from KB/s (which is what you'll see on your internet browser/download manager/P2P program) kbps stands for Kilobits per second. KB/s stands for Kilobytes per second. A byte is a combination of 8 bits. Effectively, this means that to get your transfer rate (in KB/s), you need to divide your connection speed (the kbps one) by 8.

So, like said above, a 128 kbps connection should give you only 16 KB/s. Check the above site to make sure you know your connection speed.

well you're guetting about all you can get from your connection... since it's 256kbps max speed..
there is always interferences and small stuff that make it a bit slower than it can be... so you can easily say that you can't get any faster than that

yeah, to get a faster speed you'll need to upgrade.

Also, depending on when you got that connection, and your ISP, you might be able to upgrade and get the same price.

I use Verizon Online DSL, and I had 768/128 five years ago for $30/month. I eventually got sick of this connection, called Verizon, asked for an upgrade, and I now have 1500/368. I pay $25 a month now.
