    Question Kanji in Miranda IM?

    Hi there.

I have a question. How can I type or read kanji in Miranda IM? Because if My latest Miranda encounters a kanji, it places "?" instead of it.

    Thank for your time.

That's really odd. It looks like a problem that's come up a couple times before, too, from the forum search (not just with Japanese, but also Cyrillic, Chinese...probably Arabic, too, if it's a unicode support issue). You can get messages working by downloading a plugin with Unicode support (like tabSRMM), but it doesn't look like Miranda supports it internally yet (contact list, for example).

hey ciel, i'm glad you brought up miranda before. i'm installing it now, looks neat.

Edit: umm, am i supposed to manually add my contacts, each and everyone, from all the IM's to miranda? cuz i signed on my AIM account and no one is there.

Sorry. I don't know, since I never had to transfer my contacts over from another program. Looking through the database plugins, I've found these:
    ICQ Importer, 2003b only
    Trillian importer
Import+ CSPatched...dunno what this is for.

For AIM, I thought the central servers had the contacts data, so I'm really unsure what to do for that.

EDIT: A forum search came up with this:

It's because of how TOC2 handles users and groups. In TOC1 you could simply add users on a reconnect; without, actually modifying the server's list of your buddies. So basically, they wouldn't actually get added to the server list. The original AIM plugin didn't bother with the groups that were sent to them. It used it's own list that's saved in the database.

In the configuration under "AIM Contacts"-> "Import extra contacts from the server list on next login" is by default unchecked.

In TOC2 buddies can't actually be added in the same way. They only can be added permenantly. So I have contacts & groups being imported from the server(Thus, that option effectively doesn't do a thing). So I believe that miranda's adding some of the groups that it hasn't added from AIM's server before; then, when you re-logon it remembers not recreate the groups; even, though the config that the AIM server sends says those users are in those groups.

Miranda doesn't actually use the groups from the server, it uses it's own. You'll notice that if you log on aim some of your buddies may be in different groups- that's why.

That's my speculation on what's happening anyway...
So...TOC2 does store everything on the central servers. Actually, poking around, have you tried the "Sync Buddy List with Server-side List" under the AIM submenu in the main menu? If you don't see it, it has a checkbox in the options screen for AIM plugin.
