Default PS2 memory card DIED...now what?

I just put my PS2 memory card into my system and it said it's UNformatted. WTF!?!? Is there a way I can recover my saved games. It has never left my house; no one has touched this thing. Crazy ^&*()-! What can I do now? Any way to recover the files, like with a SharkPort or using Xlink Kai: Evolution VII??

You should be able to use SharkPort, X-Port, or anything else that connect to your PC, but DON'T format your card unless you can't back your shit up. If it won't let you copy the files over, then... well your only option is the one you were expecting--start everything all over.

Valholy, would you be referring to the stuff mentioned here OR here?
Believe it or not, I had d/l a set of pages on how to do the FTP thing with a new slimline PS2. Only problem..I have so much sheeet that I forgot which DVD I put it on! So I am searching the DVDs to find these 3-4 .html files, but don't know where to look. Should have done a dir of the dvd contents and printed it prior to putting it away! From now on, when I burn a DVD I'm going to do a complete DIR listing and email it to myself. That way, I have access 24/7 to the contents of any particular DVD/CD!

    Default Found a solution...

I take back what I said about the Action Replay Max Evo. I'll let my post stand with ChimpoUA above, in case anyone wants to read it.

Go with what ToolPunk has said. The Codebreaker V9.2 is a much better option. Buy a cheap memory stick (u can fit so many games on a low capacity stick, I'd stick with 256MB or lower...to avoid incompatiblity issues) and check out the links posted. It will require a bit of work, but as I found out (*knocks head against wall), your overpriced PS2 memory card can go down the toilet. I did nothing to make my memory card dislike me, but she failed. She failed, and now I have to start from scratch in two games.

Some links to check out, for a BETTER choice that works with chipped ps2's:

    Code Breaker PS2 (V9.2), $19.99 direct:
    Buy from manufacturer

"You must have a USA Playstation 2 console to boot this product. It will not boot on a Japanese/European/Australian Playstation 2 console. If you have a modchip, it also may or may not work. It is not designed for modded systems either."

    Add-ons & misc:

Pgen _v1.2 (Genesis emulator) Pgen homepage

PS2 Reality Media Pro Download the PS2 RMP tutorial

This thing is $39.99 for what is essentially a 16MB pendrive. Heck no....heck no. Go with ToolPunk's suggestion. Use that money on some games

Yeah I dont have a ps2 but whenever i play friend's ps2s i see the usb ports and always thought it would be heaps cheaper to but a 128 meg usb thumb drive and use it as a memory card cos a meam, fuck, them things are considerably cheaper than ps2 memory cards...

I don't like cheating in games, but the other features and how it can be used in place of a memory card seem impressive, including game saves, if per chance you loose your save game data.

Very cool little device. Check out the pic & features. STOP PAYING lots of $$$ to S0ny for Memory cards. Buy one memory card (just for backup purposes...get it? backup? LOL...) and then use this other USB plug instead. Safer and easier than volatile memory cards...plus u can swap game saves w/other users on the Net.

Look, read and buy. Just remember to thank uncle hardc0regamer when u find that perfect GTA save, or the 100% perfect ending to your favorite RPG.

Oo, nice, I have one too It works great with cheating in games but it can do bad, bad things to your MC... So don't use it too much or don't D/L MC-files that may contain a bad sector... Cuz I D/Led one with Marive software on the PC and it broke my whole MC! Well, thank god I could format it with AR MAX... BTW, my Max Evo drive broke too, and now I use a normal MP3-player

It is a Simulation game. It has infinite hours of play and infinite levels. It also has a level creation possibility. The bosses are n00bs, moderators and admins. It is easy in the beginning, but there is an increasing number of rules. So if you talk about warez too much, or break other rules, you'll get banned. And then it starts over again.

O.K.........The Action Replay all in wonder sounds really good, it sounded good to me at first to. There has been reports though that the Action Replay products are having problems cooperating with modded systems. Some have reported that the memory cards get corupted or are not recognized and many other things too long to list (be aware not everyone will have the same situation so testing is at your own risk)
    Here are some recommendations:
Codebreaker V9 should be easy to find (hey I might even upload it one of these days, it's only on CD). You can pick yourself up a cheap USB pen drive (I have tested a 128MB and a 256MB no problems/the cheats you download take up almost no space so if that is all you will use it for don't get one with a large capacity. Also, I have around 100 PS2 games and have saved with all of them and that only comes up to 18MB so I don't think you would need anything real huge for that either. Oh and the CB has an option for compressing the saves for storing) and the cheats can be downloaded through the main CB site and loaded just the same as the AR. The CB has a device manager which allows you access to your memory cards, your pen drive, your HD and the network. From my experience CB has usually always had more preloaded cheats too.
As for the media player it has been said that PS2Reality Media Player Pro is far better then AR player. I have tested it and I think it is great. It supports many formats including jpeg, mp3, mpeg, divx, xvid and more (It's FREE).
The sega emulation I would have to say that PGEN is great. It has a great gui, easy to navigate menus and the games play great.
(The only thing you had to buy was a cheap USB pen drive if you didn't already have one laying around)
If you have further questions or would like info on how to find something mentioned PM me.

Updated my previous post below, to reflect the best way to save your PS2 games. (Yeah, right about now mine needs "saving" too...like saving from being lost) Anyway, I found those links and also suggest you register at the codebreaker site. Do that, and click this link to find an excellent post on how to use a USB pendrive with the Codebreaker. I would put it here, but it's very long. There is a link in the thread to compatible pendrives, but the link is dead. (note to self: email & stalk Codebreaker admin until he fixes link).

Looks like ToolPunk just saved a lot of newbies from learning how to save their PS2 games. Don't waste $$$ on multiple memory cards. But 1 or 2, a pendrive, and follow the guides. It's awesome to swap out savefiles w/friends and use the latest ones from the Internet. What do you think?

can the AR EVO be used as a regular Flashdrive? if so, i'll buy that instead of spending $60 for 512 MB ill never use. all i need a flashdrive for is to transfer papers/assignments from my laptop to the computers at school, but i'd use the AR for roster updates for NCAA games, most likely.
