I think your wrong then... Statistically speaking Gameplay is getting shorter all the time.
And faster is not always better.

How is gameplay getting shorter? I have seen plenty of games that last well over 100 hours to complete.

P.S. Yay! my first 7 page thread.

I believe those 100 hour games are RPGs, so, as a small comparison, older RPGs could be played literally for months, totalling for 3 or 4 hundred hours of pure gameplay. And you didn't have one hour long FMV sequences with that.
But anyway, 3 hours for a game such as Silent Hill 2/3 is pretty shitty. It has some adventure and exploration elements, and quite a few puzzles. It really could take more than that, with adding more places to visit, for example, instead of having a few main places you NEED to go to, and a few others you don't. In SH1 you could explain the city a lot more and get to know lots of interesting things.

I see your point. I still haven't completed an older game i continue to try and play on the SNES emulator. And i certainly haven't completed FF6 (the PS1 version)

Dragon Warrior 7 is the only game I've played that's even close to that long...

Other really long games like Xenogears took 40 hours tops...

It took me 50 hours to complete the first disc alone Granted, I'm a completist when it comes to RPGs I even spent time to search for the 1/35 soldiers in FF7

Ofcourse games are short if all you want is to finish them. I'm the kind of guy that wants to search every dungeon, find and complete every subquest, find almost all items. You'd be surprised how much of a sub-plot can be found by going off the main road in an RPG

How did you get my name to be Zaenn?

Yeah, I own and have beaten Star Ocean 3. It didn't take that long. Much shorter than Xenogears. Given I didnt play the bonus dungeon, but bonus features don't really count in the game's length...in my opinion.

Searching out every corridor, it's not my style. The only games I thought that were interesting to explore were the Dragon Warrior games on nintendo...something about the freedom they gave you was awesome.

But for most modern RPGs, you just want to make the story advance. So futzing around is a waste of time, in my opinion at least.

I've played Tales of Symphonia on the GC and that RPG lasted about 80 hours if you wanted to complete all the main sidequests, and with this game sidequests almost always include boss fights and take a while to find and complete. Plus the story was awesome and this game had only about 2 or 3 two minute long FMV sequences that hardly took up much disc space.

    I own a CD-i

The best game ever released for that console is Hotel Mario. I have that game and it's a great concept with wonderful gameplay. Though the cut scenes are even worse quality-wise than the American Mario Bros. cartoon.

I have only a few games for it... I have The adventures of Link, A shooting game and Zelda wand of gamelon. I admit I bought it just for the Zelda games...
I have a stack of games that came with ti but i've never played em'

I heard that there was an un-released mario game for it, but was released on the net... I always wondered what the point of it is... I don't think you can just burn off cd-i games... it would be very difficult.

I've seen screens of that Mario game. Looks pretty neat, but far from the usual Mario quality.

Hah, I dunno why I bought it. But I do also have one Zelda game: Zelda's Adventure. Never beaten it though. Hard as hell.
Except Hotel Mario my favorite CD-i game is Lost Eden. It was also released for PC. It's a FMV adventure with some pretty cool moments. The music is great and the story is pretty interesting.
