So its more sensible to lay out a whole new city? You have to understand, New Orleans is a major port to the south. Without it farmers and factories would have to truck there goods to the east or west coast, and then ship them. That costs a lot more. Also, you have to figure this, demolish whats left of New Orleans then clean it up. That would be a lot of machines and labor. Who has to pay for that? The taxpayers. Then we'd have to build a new city.

Your talking hundreds of billions of billions of dollars to clean/rebuild New Orleans and make its levee's and dykes bigger. You'd near a trillion to bulldoze New Orleans and clean it up then build a whole freakin new city.

    1. Below Sea Level..

    2: In marshy land...

    3: Hurricane Alley...

People should read the entire thread before putting in their two cents. Or in some cases. Taking from the penny tray.

    1. Below Sea Level - See one of Himiko's first posts in this thread. *
    2. In marshy land... Ohnoes. That surely makes sense. Let's build on good land and then grow crops in marshes. WOOO!
    3. Hurricane Alley... See India. Some places just can't be helped. Also note, that weather patterns are not absolute. They can change.

    * Himiko's post is actually in the 'What are gas prices like in your region' thread. It started off as a discussion about N'awlins and then metamorphasized.

It would be fairly easy to hurricane/tornado/flood-proof NO simply be rebuilding it as a giant self-contained pyramid or dome. It would be an engineering nightmare for several reasons, but it would stand for ages.

That's the media's perception of all black people.

When white people are looting they say "Oh they are looking for food".

When black people are looting they say, "Look at them steal! Why are they stealing those things?"

New Oreleans, and basically the South is still so damn racist it's not even funny.

For all the black people who have been to the South can testify for that.

I thought America was supposed to be the "Land of the free" please save that for someone who actually gives a damn.

I don't care how much money you got they still going to look at you as subhuman.

    That's my two cents.

I think it was the sporting gear and big-screen TVs that made me say that, rather than skin tone...especially since it wasn't skin tone that I saw or heard anything of from non-television sources.

The camera were pointing at the store that was being looted, its not the medias fault the people looting were black.

Besides, I dont think like that, Black or white were all the same inside, like I already said you are what you do, you can re-create yourself every second of the day.

This whole race thing depends on various factors. I've seen the cases of black people = looting, white people = finding, but it takes observation to see what is right/wrong. The attached picture above seems like the improper use of the terms, as it seems the black individual was taking (I will use this term for all cases) food from a grocery store. We should see all the images/video of people taking items before we say which race means what. I'm sure there were some PEOPLE looting and some PEOPLE surviving.

As for the topic, I would personally love for NO to be rebuilt. I don't get out much (and i don't expect to like many places) and I quite enjoyed my visit to New Orleans. I always though that if I become a highly successful person, that I could live or have another living quarters in NO. But with its location, could something of this catastrophe happen again (which would cost another sexy bundle of money)? Would it be worth it to rebuild constantly if this is to happen relatively often? I guess we leave these questions up to meteoroligist, other various scientists, and other educated officials who could come up with a good answer.

Probably should be rebuilt and I'm sure the people of New Orleans want it to be rebuilt.
Who's going to go out and destroy a whole city?
    Money down the drain.

One bais comment cannot attribute the whole media coverage...

the coverage I saw was from british news teams... they are (supposed) to have absolutly no Bais, and no tollerance on racism.

Ive never heard of these news teams, so I cannot judge by there past repution, But if that pic is "pucka" or genuine, then they should be dealt with.
