    Default epsxe screen size issues

i followed the epsxe setup tutorial that is posted to these forums. the only change i made was to have the screen be windowed instead of full screen.

i just tried to play speed racer from an "iso" and it is pretty small on the screen. what settings, if any, can i try to get it to fill up all or at least more of an 800x600 window?

    thanks

Well, Since I dunno what plug-in you're using, I would say try unchecking the "Keep PSX aspect ratio".

Well on my Laptop I configured ePSXe to the exact Screen Res as my laptop's screen, and it works just fine, so with the PSX emulator I would suggest making it full monitor size for greater comfort.

While that is all fine and dandy, I think his point is he would like to run the game in a WINDOW at 800x600 resolution, and that he needs to know the proper video plugin configuration in order for the game to fill that WINDOW.:eyeball:

Well in each Video Plugin configuration there is a scroll down menu where you choose from the many different sized Resolutions the game can work in, the smallest I beleive it can go down to is 500X380 or so, but if you just choose 800X600 Default in there then that should work fine.

ok here are my computer specs:

    windows xp pro sp2
    amd athlon 1.2Ghz
    640 MB Ram
GPU: Nvidia geforce fx 5200 128 MB
    monitor: dell p780 set at 1024x768 @ 60Hz

i have set the video plugin for epsxe as follows:

    Plugin: P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.1.17
Author: Pete Bernert and the P.E.Op.S. team

    Resolution/Color:
    - 800x600 Window mode
    Stretch mode: 1
    Dither mode: 0

    Framerate:
    - FPS limit: on
    - Frame skipping: off
    - FPS limit: 60.0

    Misc:
    - Scanlines: disabled
    - Game fixes: off [00000000]

and i was trying to play in windowed mode. but the game only fills a small part of the window. i have had problems in the past with full screen game play on n64 emu's. and i was still in the testing phase of just getting the emu to work so i thought it best to try windowed mode atm.

You might wanna try Pete's OpenGL 1.76 with these settings:

    Resolution/Color:
    - 800x600 Window mode
[32 Bit]- Keep psx aspect ratio: off

    Textures:
    - R8G8B8A8
    - Filtering: 0
    - Hi-Res textures: 0
    - VRam size: 0 MBytes

    Framerate:
    - FPS limitation: on
    - Frame skipping: off
    - FPS limit: 60.0

    Compatibility:
    - Offscreen drawing: 3
    - Framebuffer texture: 2
    - Framebuffer access: 0
    - Alpha multipass: on
    - Mask bit: on
    - Advanced blending: on

    Misc:
    - Scanlines: off
    - Line mode: off
    - Unfiltered FB: on
    - 15 bit FB: off
    - Dithering: off
    - Screen smoothing: off
    - Screen cushion: off
    - Game fixes: off [00000000]

    thanks akuma that worked perfectly.

are these settings good for most games or do you have to tweak settings for other games?

Slight tweaking required but mostly only for special game fixes and for different region games, PAL games require a 50 FPS instead of the 60FPS needed for NTSC American games.

Most games I have played work perfectly with those settings, but like psychofox said occasionally you will need to use special game fixes but not too often. The only really problematic games are Metal Gear and Valkyrie Profile, which also need special fixes enabled in the sound plugin.
