Morrowind w/ expansions for the PC. Or Gothic II, not a bad game for the PC also. Those are some good recomendations in case you are looking to play something in the summer.

Morrowind... okay, I know the graphics are nice, and it has a huge area to explore (which isn't exactly what it seems... they just put the same ruins and dungeons and mines all over and there you go), but still... okay, I think I've talked about Morrowind earlier... something that can only offer a huge area with monsters to kill (with the crappy battle system), and quests like 'go-here-kill-that' or 'go-here-take-that-bring-it-back', is not roleplaying for me. It just seems like because of the huge amount of dialogues, but it's mainly an avtion-oriented hack'n'slash game... hm, you could I say "well, then none of the computer games are real RPGs", and that's true, because it's nothing like the 'original' paper-dice version, which I've been playing for some time. I could bring up examples that have been mentioned before in this thread: in Fallout, thanks to the professional skill system, you could create many types of characters, while Morrowind offers skills that only help you in the heat of battle... think about it: magic forms-->to cause damage. Weapon proficiencies-->to cause damage with weapons. Armor proficiencies-->to protect from damage. Besides these, there's only Security and Sneaking... yay. And yep, there are "social skills", but not even those are well-made... Mercantile: if you succeed, you can buy things cheaper. Speechcraft: if you succeed, the NPCs "I like you"-meter goes up a little... it's strange that with the right skills, you can even be a friend of someone whose mother you killed last night. Meh. To be more exact, here are the skills of Fallout and Morrowind.
    Fallout:

    Morrowind:
Armorer, Athletics, Axe, Block, Blunt Weapon, Heavy Armor, Long Blade, Medium Armor, Spear, Alchemy, Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Enchant, Illusion, Mysticism, Restoration, Unarmored, Acrobatics, Hand to Hand, Light Armor, Marksman, Mercantile, Security, Short Blade, Sneak, Speechcraft

    See the difference?
Now about quests, which in Morrowind, go like this: go somewhere and kill xy. Or go somewhere and do something (this means giving/taking items). I've seen quests like escorting other people to places, but there are lots of these, and become very boring: you go, then the other one follows you... but the AI's so dumb he/she can stuck somewhere, or just tries to go up to a place he can't... and the AI's not good enough to let your follower go around it. Instead, he/she'll be stuck there. Most people love to explore dungeons, kill everything there and take the loot, in order to gain tons of XP and become a stronger killing machine. I wouldn't call this roleplaying. If I've seen things like solving the ancient riddles of long forgotten spirits, or just simply trying to get the king out of the way by putting some strong wine in his food while the cook not looking (Arx Fatalis), then why should I get attracted to endless killing? But this "kill everyone"-style gameplay also goes for games like Neverwinter Nights, or Knights of the Old Republic, just to mention a few that comes to my mind now. To be honest, I've recently tried KotOR 2, but bored the hell out of me with it's gameplay like: 1.good/helping answer, 2. neutral/greedy answer, 3. evil/slaughter-everyone answer. It's the same with the Baldur's Gate games too, if I remember correctly. IMO, game developers think that players have no brains at all anymore, so they make games that include killing everyone while inasnely pushing the attack button. Or, games that are too hard for average players can't be sold. And it's all about money, as we know. In older RPGs like Wizardry, you couldn't even choose from answers: you had to type the answer in yourself. The old times had the greatest of all... and Fallout is kinda new. I'm talking about things like Wizardry, Eye of the Beholder, or Bard's Tale, Lands of Lore, Ultima Underworld, etc. That would be my humble opinion.

So what I'm trying to say is, that it's foolish to waste your time in the summer on crap like that.

Strange way of viewing things, but in some aspects you make sense. Morrowind is an action RPG, and inmy humble opinion a good one too. It is entertaining and has an element I look a lot into games: massive exploration. And even if it has a main story you can skip it altogether and play like you want to. Freedom of choice. Traditional RPG's are waaay too linear in their approach. Fallout, not a fan of the game even if I own a copy. And another thing going for Morrowind: Plugins. User created content. Whole new quests, items and characters. I consider I to be an RPG like the venerable Zelda series. The question is: what kind of RPG do you like. In that context all games would be RPG's.

I consider those computer games RPG that are the closest to to the paper-dice systems I like and play (and I say "closest" on a purpose, cuz it's impossible to BE exactly like them) - I mostly play Dungeons and Dragons, but I could say Vampire the Masquerade, Alternity, Shadowrun, Ars Magica and others. And in this "fight", the winners are the games I listed above. Yes, as an action RPG, Morrowind is okay, it's just my personal problem that I seek more than that in games.

Why do threads always get derailed by over-opinionated individuals? The question wasn't "What is your favorite RPG?", or "What sort of RPG do you prefer?". He's asking for your suggestions on some games he can pass the time with, nothing more, nothing less.

If you feel that this particular line of discussion needs to continue, then by all means, create a new thread.

Try switching audio plugins. If the problem still persists, make a post in Everything Emulation.

I heard that Legend of the Dragoon was a sucky attempt at making a game only with lots of money, not good developers and innovative gameplay. Haven't played the game myself, though.
And, the totally different battle systems are what make those games stand out from the average. Valkyrie Profile has an action-packed battle system, and you need good reflexes for that. Though if you know how to develop your characters properly and get the secret items, you'll be unstoppable anyway.
Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story have a pretty similar battle system, basically you pause the action when you can, and then act as you wish. You only have to watch your position, relative to the enemies.
Fallout... the fun thing in Fallout (especially Fallout 2) is that you don't even HAVE to fight. Say you're playing as a merchant. So, you're Speech skill is probably quite high, so you fast-talk your way past the guards. Or you'll just sneak in. Or, if you're playing a female character with Sex Appeal... just charm the stupid thug. Heh. The traditional way (and the only one your given in some games) would be to start a firefight with him. Then, it's tactical turn based battle, not just whacking at the fellow as fast as you can.
I personally found that the battle systems in the Tales of... series was quite fun. Download the SNES version of Tales of Phantasia with the english patch to see what I'm talking about.
