but I alterd it to look like the Retro dood one . How can I format the HDD? Does it make it larger?

Well, you'll need some type of boot disk. Place an unlocked Harddrive into the Xbox, and load evox or similar via a disk. From here, you could always use evox's built in functions, but it didnt work for me, so i did the following, outlined in on of the xbox-scene guides.

FTP into your xbox, and click 'send raw FTP command'. Type 'Formatpath \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1' which will give you a key for the partition. next type FormatDrive _________, where the blank is the key in the last step. Do the same for Partition2 and Partition6, which gives you access to the F drive (partition 6 that is). If you have a drive LARGER THAN 137Gb, then also follow those steps using Partition7.

Now you can FTP over the backup of the old HDD's C and E drives (which you made before you took out the old harddrive, works best this way i have found, using the FTP), and there you have it, a working, and bigger, HDD.

You can format using the above guide, but I only use it for larger HDDs. Some stock HDDs may have an extra 2 gigs that can be formatted by using the Partition6, but it doesnt buy you much room, and its not in all HDDs.

when extracting the softmod is it supposed to freeze because it showed it extracting then it froze on 100 percent

?? extracting? you mean when youre installing it right? that never hapened to me, what did you do after that? is your xbox working?
